Not so long ago, Hyundai started with a new luxury line called Genesis. These days, we can already see a couple of very interesting models and the newest addition to the lineup is coming in the form of a mid-size luxury crossover. The new model is coming as the 2021 Genesis GV80 and it is about to hit the market this summer. Given the model’s size, you may presume it will compete with German luxury SUVs, such as BMW X5, Mercedes-Benz GLE etc. However, the price will be notably lower, pretty much in the territory of compact luxury crossovers like Audi Q5, and that will be one of the strongest points of this Korean brand.
From what we know about the new model, there is no doubt it will be really luxurious. First of all, the cabins look really upscale, full of soft leather and other premium materials. Furthermore, you may count on a couple of quite capable engines, while we also have no doubt that the list of standard equipment will be pretty long. In terms of base design characteristics, this will be a mid-size luxury crossover, designed to compete mostly with German luxury SUVs of a similar size. With more than 116 inches in wheelbase, this crossover will certainly offer a quite generous amount of space on the inside, while the mechanical aspect of the SUV seems familiar as well. This model will be in a close relationship with the G80 luxury sedan, so we are talking about a genuine premium layout, which means rear-wheel drive, or AWD system in higher trim levels. The overall length will go slightly under 195 inches.
Exterior
When it comes to the exterior design, you can notice a genuine Genesis styling. A lot of inspiration has been taken from the G80 sedan. So the two models share not just mechanics, but many aesthetical solutions as well. Of course, this includes the familiar horizontal stripes that many see as G80’s trademarks, both when it comes to headlights and taillights. Of course, the massive grille looks quite familiar as well.
On the other side, the new model comes in a typical SUV manner. Also, the rear end is designed in a typical wagon manner, which promises decent cargo volume as well. As we already mentioned, the new luxury SUV will feature more than 116 inches in wheelbase. That promises plenty of legroom on the inside. However, it looks like the base model will come with just two rows of seats. The third row will be optional and we don’t expect it will be very spacious. More likely, it will be just for kids.

When it comes to the engine lineup, we know for sure that North American models will come in two variants. Base models will be equipped with a turbo-four engine. It will be a new 2.5-liter unit, which puts out around 300 horsepower. Higher trim levels will be equipped with a 3.5-liter V6 engine, which puts out around 375 horsepower. Both engines will come in pair with 8-speed automatic transmission.
When it comes to 2021 Genesis GV80 specs for the European market, it looks like the company is also going to offer a diesel version. This one would come with a 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel, which is good for about 275 horsepower.
