2021 Jeep Wrangler Preview: Changes, PHEV, Release Date

Despite that most of the features of the current year model will remain the same, the 2021 Jeep Wrangler is still about to bring a full load of interesting novelties. The current generation of the iconic SUV has been around for a couple of years and while it’s still early for a mid-cycle refresh, the next year will a nice amount of updates. According to the latest reports, we are about to see a plug-in hybrid version of the SUV, while some reports suggest arrivals of specials versions, such as 2021 Jeep Wrangler High Altitude.

Still, the overall design won’t change. The current generation is about to carry on for several more years, so the next-year model will continue with the legendary design, which comes in two body styles and a variety of versions when it comes to equipment groups. We expect to see the new model sometime in the second half of the year.

2021 Jeep Wrangler Design

In terms of base design characteristics, we don’t expect any particular change for the next year. The next-year model will carry on with the familiar design, which remains loyal to its roots and still rides on a BoF platform, despite the overflow of crossovers. The classic design is here, while you may once again count on two body styles in the offers. The base 2-door model is expected to carry on in the same way, while the stretched 4-door model is about to come with a couple of new versions.

One of them will be the 2021 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara, which should be a special off-road package, full of additional features. On the other side, the already-mentioned High Altitude model will be characterized by a completely opposite approach. This will be an on-road-oriented model, which lower-profile tires and loads of exclusive styling details and features.

Interior

When it comes to the interior, 2021 Jeep Wrangler changes should be minimal. Of course, the aforementioned packages will include a couple of exclusive interior features too, but we don’t count on any particular change. The overall cabin layout will remain in any case. That means you may count on a dashboard design that combines modern and classic design solutions, with attractive but also durable surfaces. As we’ve already mentioned, there are two body styles in the offer and while the smaller 2-door model feels pretty tiny, the stretched Unlimited model is actually pretty generous in terms of space. You may count not only on two adult-friendly rows of seats, but also on a quite respectable cargo volume. There are 32 cubic feet of cargo space with its rear seats upright and 72 cubic feet of space with these seats folded.

2021 Jeep Wrangler Engines

When it comes to powertrain, you may count on two familiar gasoline options. Base models are equipped with a well-known 3.6-liter V6, which puts out around 285 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. There is also a new 2.0-liter turbo-four, which is good for about 270 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. Despite less power, this engine actually feels more energetic, thanks to notably more torque. However, a big drawback of the turbo-four is that it’s only available with an 8-speed automatic gearbox which, by the way, works great. The V6 is also available with a six-speed manual.

When it comes to fuel economy, the turbo-four is an advantage. It returns around 22 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway. On the other side, the V6 is notably thirstier in the city, as it returns just 18 miles per gallon. On the other side, the highway economy goes around 23 mpg.

2021 Jeep Wrangler Plug-In Hybrid

The 2021 Jeep Wrangler Hybrid should be the biggest novelty for the next year. According to most reports, the version will use the same or very similar system we can find in Pacifica. Of course, we are talking about a V6-based system that puts around 260 horsepower. The popular minivan features a 16-kWh battery, which is enough to provide 33 miles in the all-electric range. The Wrangler is heavier and bigger, so it will feature either shorter range, or we are about to see a bigger battery pack. The company is still quiet on this matter.

2021 Jeep Wrangler Release Date and Price

Details about the 2021 Jeep Wrangler release date are still unavailable, so the best we can say is that we expect to see it sometime in the second half of the next year. The biggest competitor in the future will be Ford Bronco, which is coming back after years of hiatus. We expect to see it in the next year.

When it comes to the 2021 Jeep Wrangler price, the current model starts around 28.500 dollars, while the bigger four-door model is available at 31.800 dollars. We presume that the new PHEV model will get pretty close to 40.000 dollars.
