2022 Nissan Qashqai Redesign: What We Know So Far

One of the company’s biggest moneymakers is about to come completely new for the next year. It’s no secret that the Japanese manufacturer is renewing the entire SUV lineup these days and when it comes to Europe, the 2022 Nissan Qashqai is by far the most interesting one. This small crossover, also known as Rogue Sport, has been the company’s best-selling model in the Old Continent for years, so there is no doubt that Nissan engineers are paying special attention to this model.

At this point, the new model is still in the testing phase. The mule has been around for a while but it still wears a complete camouflage. Still, we certainly know some of the details about the upcoming crossover, starting from mechanics, some visual aspects and interior design. When it comes to the powertrain, it looks like the Japanese manufacturer is about to keep a diesel option, though new hybrid models are coming as well. The Nissan Rogue 2021 release date is yet to be announced but the latest reports suggest it should arrive early next year.

2021 Nissan Qashqai Rendering

2022 Nissan Qashqai Redesign

The 2022 Nissan Qashqai will come completely redesigned and that means novelties in all kinds of aspects. Let’s start with the platform first, as we are 100% sure about this aspect of the car. The new model will rely on a proven design solution and it will ride on a well-known CMF architecture, just like the outgoing model. However, we are about to see notable updates, so the new model will be lighter, more efficient and it will ride better.

When it comes to dimensions, the exact details are still unavailable. Still, the test mule doesn’t look much bigger than the current generation, so we presume that increase in this aspect won’t be significant, though a couple of inches in the overall length are possible.

Styling

This crossover has always been characterized by an attractive look and we do not doubt that the 2022 Nissan Qashqai will carry on in the same way. The test model is still under the camouflage, so we can’t go into specifics. However, there are some things we certainly know. For example, the new model will feature a little bit different headlights compared to the X-Trail. Instead of separate lighting groups, this one will rather feature a C-shape design. On the other side, we count on a pretty similar approach when it comes to the grille design, which should feature the company’s latest V-motion layout, which looks bolder and bigger compared to the one on the current generation.

On the other end, changes won’t be that significant. Still, we can see through the camouflage that taillights are about to feature a little bit of different shapes. They will be slimmer but once again, part of it will be on the tailgate. When it comes to the overall shape, the testing mule features a pretty familiar silhouette, so there shouldn’t be surprises in this aspect.

Interior

On the inside, the current model still looks pretty good, despite the age. So, expectations from the new ones are pretty big. We count on a lot of influence from the bigger X-Trail model, which already showed its cabin. This includes a digital instrument cluster, though we aren’t 100% sure if this going to be a standard feature or not. On the other side, we count on a similar tablet-like touchscreen, while an electronic shifter in models with automatic transmission should be installed as well.

In terms of the 2022 Nissan Qashqai interior space, we count on some improvement, though we have to say that the current model already stands pretty well in this aspect, compared to rivals. On the other side, the new model would definitely use a little bit more cargo space.

2022 Nissan Qashqai Engines

We expect to see both old and new things under the hood of 2022 Nissan Qashqai. The “old things” term refers to familiar gasoline and diesel units, which will be available in the new model as well. The first one is a small 1.3-liter turbo-petrol engine, which puts out around 160 horsepower. A 1.7-liter turbodiesel has been added to the lineup recently, so there is no reason why it shouldn’t be available in the next-generation model as well. This one puts out around 150 horsepower.

Besides conventional gasoline and diesel units, the new model will also come in hybrid variants. A classic hybrid version is expected to come first, while we expect from the new model to borrow Mitsubishi’s plug-in hybrid system in the future as well.

The 2022 Nissan Qashqai Australia model is expected to be available with a naturally-aspirated gasoline engine as well.

  1. Qashqai – I like the brown leather seats for a change, Nissan should play around with the interior colours, we cant have dull colours all the time, this is not a car for old people really, how about some red & brown seats and interior or blue/red or red/white depending on the color of the car. I am driving a Qashqai and will change as soon as the latest come in, please email me for a view and test drive as soon as it arrive. we also need lights inside/interior by the doors and so forth. please also give us comfort in style to accommodate our Qashqai pride. some 4by4 qualities please one of the kind. the steering should be modern too like Brown and gold…smaller etc
Thank you I love you Nissan, please keep delivering the best and most sustainable quality cars, my Nissan Qashqai has never let me down so far! through heavy weather and wet grounds I crossedover…please add 4by4 features a lot
