Subaru’s smallest crossover in the lineup is getting a nice bundle of changes for the next year. Even though the current generation has been around for just a couple of years, the Japanese manufacturer decided to bring updates. These novelties are strictly focused on those critical points, which were considered as drawbacks. This includes the engine as well, considering that one of the biggest complaints so far was about the weak 2.0-liter engine. The 2021 Subaru Crosstrek Sport is also a big novelty, a familiar trim level that is coming back and brings a couple of exclusive features.
All in all, you may count on a pretty versatile vehicle, which comes with the excellent drivetrain, new engine in the offer and a couple of styling updates. Furthermore, you may count on a vehicle that offers a spacious and practical cabin, spacious cargo area and loads of standard equipment. The new 2021 Subaru Crosstrek Sport will be a mid-range trim level.
2021 Subaru Crosstrek Sport Design and Features
Like other versions in the offer, the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek Sport will also come with notable styling changes. This particularly refers to the front end, where you can easily notice a revised front bumper. Also, there are new sets of wheels and we presume that some of them will be reserved for this trim level. The 2021 Subaru Crosstrek Sport colors are another thing that comes to mind. It looks like the new trim will be available in new color options, called Plasma Yellow Pearl and Horizon Blue Pearl.
On the other side, the mechanical aspect of the updated model will remain the same, while the 2021 Crosstrek Sport will come with one exclusive detail, a dual X-Mode traction control. This system optimizes the company’s excellent AWD system for specific road conditions. The thing we particularly like in this case is that you can choose between different modes via a nice rotary knob on the center console. It lets you choose between Normal, Sand/Mud, or Snow/Ice modes.
2021 Subaru Crosstrek Sport Engines
Probably the biggest novelty for this update is the addition of a new engine. So far, the small crossover was available with a 2.0-liter engine only. This was the biggest complaint among drivers, as a 152-hp engine isn’t particularly fun to drive. Therefore, this year brings a new 2.5-liter unit, which is good for about 182 horsepower. That’s 30 horses more, so it’s no wonder that differences in terms of dynamics are quite notable. Just like the standard engine, this one is also available with either manual or CVT gearbox.
The best thing is that the new engine isn’t much thirstier at all. While the base engine returns up to 30 miles per gallon in a combined ride, the new 2.5-liter unit goes down for just one mpg.
Some sources were also suggesting the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek Sport turbo version. There were even talks about the new 2.4-liter turbo-four, but that seems like way too much power for such a small crossover. Therefore, we are pretty sure that the current generation will stick to naturally aspirated units.
On the other side, we don’t expect that the hybrid version with two electric motors and 148 horsepower will be offered in this trim level.
When it comes to the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek Sport interior, we are about to see a couple of interesting novelties as well. Of course, most of them will be in terms of aesthetics, as well are about to see things like “Sport” badges and unique stitching. Other than that, things will probably remain pretty much the same, though we won’t exclude the possibility to see a couple of exclusive features in the offer.
All in all, the overall cabin layout will remain the same and that’s not a bad thing at all. This crossover features one of the nicest cabins in the class, which comes with an attractive dashboard and full of quality materials. The list of standard equipment will be pretty long as well. This will be a mid-range trim level but we have no doubt it will come with goodies like an 8-inch touchscreen, navigation, Wi-Fi hotspot and similar things.
When it comes to cargo volume, only a couple of rivals offer more space than this model. There are nearly 21 cubic feet behind the second row, while the overall cargo capacity goes up to 55.3 cubic feet.
2021 Subaru Crosstrek Sport Release Date and Price
When it comes to the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek Sport release date, the new version was expected to hit the market this summer. However, we might see a delay, due to pandemics.
On the other side, we already know the details about the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek Sport price. This trim level will go around 27.600 dollars.
