2021 Subaru Outback Preview: Changes, Hybrid, Specs

The legendary crossover wagon has been one of Subaru’s longest-running nameplates and the current model is in the sixth generation. The complete redesign happened last year, so we have no doubt that the 2021 Subaru Outback changes will be minimal, as we are talking about the second model year. Of course, there is always room for novelties in terms of standard equipment or new color options. Anything more than that would be a real surprise, despite all those rumors that suggest changes under the hood.

All in all, you may count on a vehicle that has remained loyal to its original philosophy for decades. It is an excellent station wagon that comes with a high ground clearance that provides solid off-road performances. Also, you may count on plenty of comfort on the inside, as well as on a hi-quality cabin, full of latest tech features. Finally, the optional turbo-four engine provides really amazing driving experience. We presume that the 2021 Subaru Outback release date will be scheduled for the last quarter of the year.

2021 Subaru Outback Design

We’ve just mentioned that the current generation has been around for just one year. That clearly indicates that the next-year model will come without more important changes. You may count on a design that is based on the company’s new modular platform, which underprints pretty much every model in the lineup.

In terms of the exterior design and styling, things haven’t changed drastically with the recent redesign. We are still talking about a classic Outback design, which combines station wagon body style with high ground clearance, typical for crossovers. Styling-wise, we saw evolutionary changes only. The familiar layout is here, though everything looks a little bit sharper this time. The next year shouldn’t bring any particular change either, though some new color options sound possible.

Interior

As we’ve just mentioned, the 2021 Subaru Outback changes will be minimal and we doubt that something will change on the insider, especially if we look at all the improvements that came with the recent redesign. The new cabin looks really impressive, thanks to the maximum use of high-quality materials and attractive aesthetics. A full load of standard and available tech features makes everything look even more opulent.

Besides the attractive look, this cabin is also at a really high level in terms of practicality and functionality. In terms of legroom, both rows are really generous, while massive and supportive seats guarantee relaxed ride on long trips. Also, glass surfaces are quite big, so visibility is solid in all directions as well.

When it comes to the cargo volume, you may count on above-average ratings for the class. This model offers around  32.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind its second row, while the overall capacity goes up to 75.7 cubic feet.

Features

Additions to the list of standard features are always possible but if we look at the current model and all the features in the offer, we doubt there will be too many novelties. Most of the things will remain the same as in the current model, which comes standard with tech goodies like a 7-inch touchscreen, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone integration, USB ports, satellite radio and many more. Additionally, you can get goodies like 11.6-inch vertical touch screen, remote start, dual-zone automatic climate control, a moonroof, a Rockford Fosgate stereo, a 12-speaker Harman Kardon premium stereo, two rear USB ports, HD Radio, navigation and more.

Subaru models have always been fully loaded with safety features and this one isn’t any different. The list of standard safety features includes goodies like rearview camera, automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, forward automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, and lane keep assist.

2021 Subaru Outback Engines

Some sources suggest we might see 2021 Subaru Outback Hybrid. However, this is just a rumor at the moment, so you should take it with a reserve. On the other side, the two gasoline options will carry on in the same way. Base models will continue with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder unit that puts out around 182 horsepower. Higher trim levels come with a new 2.4-liter turbo-four, which is good for quite an impressive 260 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque. Both engines come in pair with a CVT gearbox and Subaru’s legendary AWD system.

When it comes to fuel economy, the base engine returns around 26 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway. The turbo-four is good for about 23 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. Both are pretty impressive ratings if we consider the standard all-wheel drive.

2021 Subaru Outback Release Date and Price

When it comes to the 2021 Subaru Outback release date, we expect it will hit the market this fall. Base models should go around 27.000 dollars. This model competes with a wide range of vehicles, which includes names like Audi Allroad, Volvo V60 and V90, Hyundai Santa Fe, Ford Edge, Honda Passport and others.
