The company’s compact crossover has been redesigned last year, so it was pretty much expected to see the 2022 Buick Envision without more important updates. However, some novelties are still coming. They are minor but nice. For example, we can see new features for the Sport Touring package, such as new pedal covers, new floormats, red stitching etc. Also, there is a new exterior color option on the offer, called Sapphire Metallic.
Other than that, things are pretty much the same as in the initial model. So, you may count on a compact crossover, which walks on a fine line between premium and mainstream segments. We like its capable and efficient engine, as well as a nice and spacious cabin. The list of standard equipment is also quite long. On the other hand, the main complaint goes to steering and handling in general, which aren’t too inspiring.
As there are no bigger changes to come, we expect that the 2022 Buick Envision release date will be scheduled for the last quarter of the year.
2022 Buick Envision Design
The Envision has been redesigned last year. That redesign has brought a lot of novelties and we can say that the current model is way better than its predecessor. The new model rides on the E2 platform, the same one that’s used for models like Chevy Equinox and GMC Terrain. However, this model feels notably more upscale, as the suspension has been upgraded. As a result, the comfort is on a higher level. On the other hand, the steering could be more precise. Those who look for a more engaging compact crossover should probably look for a well-equipped Mazda CX-5, which offers much better ride quality for the same or less money.
On the other hand, there is really nothing to complain about regarding aesthetics. This model follows the brand’s latest design language and the biggest novelty for the second production year is the addition of the new Sapphire Metallic color.
The evaluation of the 2022 Buick Envision interior quality depends on the way you look at it. As we already mentioned, this model walks on a fine line between the segments, and the same can be said for the cabin. Yes, it looks more upscale compared to most mainstream rivals but it is still far away from premium players, such as Acura RDX or Infiniti QX50. Still, we think that most buyers will be satisfied with the overall cabin design.
What’s probably more important, the cabin has plenty of space. Thanks to more than 109 inches in wheelbase, both rows accommodate adult passengers with ease. The front seats are okay, while the visibility is good.
The cargo area offers around 25.2 cubic feet of cargo space behind its rear seats and 52.7 cubic feet, which seems like a decent amount of space. Still, keep in mind that many mainstream compact crossovers offer way more.
Things won’t change too much compared to the current model year. So, all versions should come standard with goodies like keyless entry, push-button start, an 8-inch touch screen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, four USB ports, satellite radio, a six-speaker stereo, and a Wi-Fi hot spot. Additionally, you can get goodies like dual-zone climate control, a 10.2-inch touch screen, navigation, HD Radio, seven- and nine-speaker stereos, and a smartphone charging pad.
The list of standard safety features is pretty long. You may count a rearview camera, rear parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, automatic high beams etc. Additionally, there are upgrades like front parking sensors, head-up display, surround-view camera etc.
2022 Buick Envision Engine
We don’t expect changes under the hood either. All models will continue with just one engine on the offer. That would be a 2.0-liter turbo-four, which puts out around 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. That’s enough power to satisfy most drivers, while those who prefer sportier ride probably won’t consider this model anyway. The driving dynamics are good, while we also like the 9-speed automatic transmission, which is smooth and shifts mostly on time.
Besides good engine power, this crossover also offers pretty good fuel economy. You may count on about 24 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway, which is pretty impressive for the segment.
2022 Buick Envision Release Date and Price
As we’ve just mentioned, the 2022 Buick Envision should arrive sometime in the last quarter of the year. Price changes are not expected, so base versions should go around 32.500 dollars. The mid-range Essence trim is available at around 37.000 dollars, while the range-topping Avenir starts at around $41.000.
