2022 Buick Envision Avenir, GX and Plus: Review

The 2022 Buick Envision represents the second production year of the current generation and despite that we are talking about a pretty fresh model, it has brought some pretty big novelties. Besides the standard version, there is also a three-row model, which debuted in China but it is expected to be offered in North America as well. Besides the new three-row version, the 2022 Buick Envision also comes with a couple of minor updates which include a new color option and a couple of interior novelties.

On the other hand, the overall design remains the same. That means that you may count on a familiar layout, which has a lot of good things to offer. The Envision is a stylish crossover, which looks great from the inside and offers good build quality and lots of features. Also, we like the peppy turbo-four engine, which is efficient at the same time. Finally, there is the price, which is lower compared to most rivals.

The second production year brings a couple of interesting changes. When it comes to the base model, the biggest novelty is a new color option, called Sapphire Metallic. It replaces the Dark Moon Blue Metallic finish, which has been deleted. Other than that, the 2022 Buick Envision continues in the same way, with the same mechanics and aesthetics.

The 2022 Buick Envision Plus already had a presentation in China. It is a stretched, three-row version of the SUV, which accommodates up to seven passengers. Compared to the standard model, it gains 2.1 inches in wheelbase and 8.2 inches in total length.

If we can trust the latest reports, the three-row model could arrive in North America as well, maybe already this year. The same suggest a different name in this part of the world, probably the 2022 Buick Envision GX.

Interior

There are no interior changes for the 2022 Buick Envision, at least when it comes to the standard model. You may count on the same dashboard design, which offers good build quality and pretty fine materials. Higher trim levels even look pretty luxurious, on par with higher-grade premium models, such as Audi Q5. Also, the cabin is roomy and very practical. Both rows accommodate adults with ease, while the driving position ensures very good visibility in all directions. The cargo area offers around 25.2 cubic feet of cargo space behind its rear seats and 52.7 cubic feet, which is a good rating for the class.

On the other hand, the new version comes with three rows. The additional seats aren’t as spacious and comfortable as the first two, but they can be pretty useful. Also, there is more cargo room behind the second row, while the dashboard looks pretty much the same as in the standard model.

Features

This aspect brings minimal changes compared to the last year’s model. That’s not a bad thing at all, considering that the initial model was already equipped with standard features pretty well. All models come with things like keyless entry, an 8-inch touch screen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, four USB ports, satellite radio, a six-speaker stereo, and a Wi-Fi hot spot. Also, you may count on safety features like a rearview camera, rear parking sensors, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, automatic high-beam headlights.

Naturally, higher trim levels offer even more features, particularly the rage-topping 2022 Buick Envision Avenir. This version brings features like a 10.2-inch touch screen, navigation, HD Radio, seven- and nine-speaker stereos, and a smartphone charging pad, automatic climate control, adaptive cruise control and more.

2022 Buick Envision Engine

Things under the hood remained the same for this year. The 2022 Buick Envision continues with just one engine on the offer. That would be a familiar 2.0-liter turbo-four, which features a max output of 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The engine comes in pair with a 9-speed automatic transmission, which sends power to front wheels. All-wheel drive is also available.

The ride quality is pretty good and the engine moves this SUV with ease. Besides good driving dynamics, it also offers good fuel economy. You may count on about 24 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway, which is above-average for the segment.

2022 Buick Envision Price and Competition

The 2022 Buick Envision starts at around 32.000 dollars, which is a quite affordable price for a compact luxury SUV. Key rivals are notably more expensive, and we are thinking of models like Lincoln Corsair, Cadillac XT4 etc. This model also competes with some higher-grade mainstream compact crossovers, such as Mazda CX-5 or VW Tiguan. The most expensive models can cost up to 45.000 dollars.
