Although the segment of mid-size luxury crossover is full of excellent models, the XT5 still has a couple of good things to offer, despite the fact that it has been around for about five years and that definitely has a couple of drawbacks. According to the latest reports, the next generation will arrive in about two years, which clearly indicates that the 2022 Cadillac XT5 will represent the final production year of the current generation, which has been around since 2016. That’s why we don’t expect to see any particular change.
All this means that the XT5 will continue to deliver familiar design characteristics, which offer a couple of drawbacks, but a couple of great things as well. For example, we like the model’s large and spacious cabin, as well as the efficient base engine. Furthermore, we are talking about one very reliable vehicle, which is a rare thing among premium cars of any kind. The lack of updates indicates that the launch date should be scheduled for the last quarter of the year.
2022 Cadillac XT5 Design
When it comes to base design characteristics, the 2022 Cadillac XT5 will definitely remain the same. We are about to see the same overall layout, based on a C1 platform, the same one that underprints models like GMC Acadia, Chevy Traverse etc. This particular model rides on the standard version of this platform, with 112.5 inches in wheelbase. That’s a quite typical size for the segment, comparable with models like Lexus RX, Lincoln Nautilus etc.
Visually, the recent mid-cycle refresh hasn’t brought any particular change. We saw new grille designs and colors but other than that, things remained the same. That’s why we are pretty sure that the next year won’t bring anything more important either. You may count on a familiar design, based on Caddy’s contemporary aesthetics.
On the inside, this crossover is a kind of mixed bag and the 2022 Cadillac XT5 will continue in the same way. It will continue with a cabin that looks nice, but not as nice as most rivals. Simply, the materials should be better in this segment, as well as fit and finish.
On the other side, there is nothing to complain about when it comes to passenger space. Both rows are very generous with leg and headroom and accommodate adults with ease. The front seats are also decently shaped, with enough side support. The driving position is also good, as well as the visibility.
When it comes to the cargo area, you may count on about 30.2 cubic feet behind the rear seats. Fold them down and you get 63 cubic feet of space. Those are quite average numbers for the class.
Naturally, yearly updates can always bring novelties in terms of standard equipment but we are pretty sure that most of the things are about to remain the same. The current model comes standard with goodies like dual-zone climate control, keyless entry, remote start, an 8-inch touch screen, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, an eight-speaker Bose audio system, satellite radio, Bluetooth, USB ports, Wi-Fi hotspot etc. Additionally, you can get tri-zone climate control, a sunroof, a rear-seat entertainment system, navigation, wireless charging, a premium audio system and more.
When it comes to safety features, the current model comes standard with goodies like a rearview camera, a safety alert seat, forward collision warning, forward automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, front and rear parking sensors, lane keep assist, and lane departure warning. Features like a head-up display, night vision assist, a rear camera mirror, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, lane change alert, rear cross traffic alert, rear pedestrian alert, reverse automatic emergency braking, a surround-view parking camera system, and parallel and perpendicular park assist are available.
2022 Cadillac XT5 Engines
Things under the hood will remain the same as well. There are two familiar units and the offer starts with a 2.0-liter turbo-four, which puts out around 235 horsepower. It does a fine job and it’s a good choice for daily commuting. More ambitious drivers can opt for the V6. It’s a well-known 3.6-liter engine, which puts out around 310 horsepower and provides much better performance than the base unit. Both engines come in pair with a 9-speed automatic transmission, which does a pretty good job.
When it comes to fuel economy, the base engine returns a pretty respectable 22 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. The optional V6 is thirstier and returns around 26 mpg on the highway.
2022 Cadillac XT5 Release Date and Price
Since there are no big novelties to come, we expect that the 2022 Cadillac XT5 will hit the market sometime late in the year. We don’t expect bigger changes in prices either, so base models should go around 45.000 dollars.
