2022 Ford Bronco Sport Preview: Features, Specs, Release Date

The new crossover from the Blue Oval company is ready but the latest reports suggest the launch will be moved for the next year on most markets. While we can see it already in showrooms in certain states, the rest of the world will have to wait for some more time, because of the Coronavirus pandemics. There, the new model will come as the 2022 Ford Bronco Sport, but we don’t expect it will be much different compared to the initial model. Of course, yearly updates are always possible.

All in all, you may count on an SUV which is, despite the unibody platform, pretty capable in terms of off-roading, but which also offers a lot of refinement, especially when it comes to handling, ride quality and engine options. Of course, there is the styling, as a kind of X-factor, which resembles the BoF brother in a pretty big portion. We expect to see the 2022 Ford Baby Bronco during 2021.

2022 Ford Bronco Sport Design

As we’ve just mentioned, the key difference between Bronco Sport and the standard Bronco is the platform. While the bigger sibling features a traditional body-on-frame platform, this one comes rather with a unibody design. Of course, it isn’t as capable as the bigger brother but on the other side, it is more versatile. It provides significantly better driving characteristics on the road. So, those who don’t need an SUV for permanent trail adventures but still want strong off-road performances and a little bit of that Bronco flavor should shortlist this one.

Besides the styling that closely resembles the legendary BoF model, we also like the fact that there are numerous advanced systems that make off-roading better. Of course, one of the first things that come to mind is a mode selector, where you can set up all kinds of different traction configurations, depending on the surface and terrain. Furthermore, more rugged versions are equipped with a rear locking differential, as well as bigger 29-inch tires that provide higher ground clearance, better approach and departure angles etc. The suspension travel goes around 7.4 inches, while models with these big tires are 8.8 inches far from the ground. In this case, approach and departure angles go around 30.4 and 33.1 degrees, respectively. Also, the max fording goes up to 23.6 inches, which is a pretty impressive number for a compact crossover.

Interior

On the inside, the 2022 Ford Bronco Sport will feature a rather simplistic interior layout. It looks nice, though not as Escape or other compact crossovers. Still, there is nothing to complain about. Moreover, the list of tech goodies is also pretty long, while SUV enthusiasts will love the fact that most controls on the center stack have remained physical.

The relatively boxy shape and dimensions that are typical for a compact crossover guarantee decent amounts of passenger and cargo room. Both rows of seats are generous with space and accommodate adults with ease. Furthermore, the cargo area is quite generous and offers around 32.5 cubic feet behind the second row and 65.2 cubic feet with the second-row seats folded.

Tech Features

Base models seem more than decent for the class, as we know that all 2022 Ford Bronco Sport models will come standard with things like an 8-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, four USB ports, six speakers, and a Wi-Fi hot spot. When it comes to available tech goodies, some of the things you’ll be able to get navigation, satellite radio, HD Radio, two additional USB ports, a 10-speaker Bang & Olufsen stereo, and wireless device charging. The list of options will also include things like automatic climate control, push-button start, remote start, ambient interior lighting, a 120-volt household-style power outlet, power moonroof etc.

2022 Ford Bronco Sport Engines

The 2022 Ford Bronco Sport will share most of its parts with Ford Escape and this particularly refers to the engine lineup, which will be the same. Base models will come equipped with a 1.5-liter three-cylinder turbo engine, which is good for about 181 horsepower and 190 pound-feet of torque. It accelerates quickly and works pretty smooth for a three-cylinder engine. Still, it feels a little bit loud at higher RPMs.

The optional 2.0-liter turbo-four is notably smoother and offers significantly more power. It is good for about 250 horses and 277 pound-feet of torque. That’s a big difference compared to the base engine, which is most notable on the highway.

When it comes to fuel economy, the base engine returns around 25 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. The optional turbo-four is notably thirstier, as it returns around 21 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway.
