2022 Honda CR-V Redesign: Everything We Know So Far

The current generation of Honda’s best-seller has been around since 2015 and despite that sales numbers are still excellent and that many still consider this model the best compact SUV on the market, the Japanese manufacturer is about to introduce a completely new model this year. The 2022 Honda CR-V is about to receive a complete overhaul and the premiere is expected in the second half of the year.

At this point, we don’t know the details, but some general things are quite easy to predict. The testing model has been on the road for a while but it still wears a camouflage. Therefore, the styling details are yet to be discovered but on the other side, we know most things about mechanics. Furthermore, the interior design should be pretty similar to the upcoming next-generation Civic, which showed a much more upscale cabin compared to the previous generation. All in all, expectations for the next generation are huge. Still, that’s kinda normal, as we are talking about a class-leader.

2022 Honda CR-V Redesign

While Honda tends to keep most details a secret, some things about this redesign are quite easy to predict. Without any doubt, this overhaul will bring a lot of improvements. However, we have no doubt that most of the changes will be evolutionary. Simply, we are talking about a class-leader, which already features excellent design characteristics in many aspects. Furthermore, this is one of the most important models for the company in terms of sales numbers. Honda definitely can’t afford to mess up with this model.

From what we know so far, and what is quite obvious, the new 2022 Honda CR-V redesign won’t bring surprises in terms of mechanics. The new model will share the platform and most of the parts with the upcoming next-generation Civic, which is about to have a premiere this spring

Exterior

As we already mentioned, the test model has been spotted on the road. However, it still wears camouflage, it’s hard to guess the exact look of the new model. Still, some of the things can be seen, even through the camouflage. For example, the new model looks like it features a similar size to the current model, but the hood looks longer, as well as the rear overhang. The latter may indicate that Honda is testing some kind of a stretched version, with three rows of seats.

The overall shape brings a typical crossover stance, while the front end shows a little bit of the new design approach. We can see that headlights look quite similar to the Accord, as well as the grill. We presume that 2022 Honda CR-V changes will go in the direction that will make the new model look a little bit more conservative, but also a little bit more mature.

Interior

Details about the 2022 Honda CR-V interior are still to come. However, we can see on the spy shots that Honda is about to install the same touchscreen as in the upcoming Civic. This means a tablet-like layout, while the dashboard generally should look very similar to the popular compact sedan/hatchback. The cabin of the new Civic looks way better than before. It utilizes long horizontal lines that make everything look more conservative but also more upscale. This is exactly what the CR-V needs, as the current model features good quality but lacks style on the inside.

We have no doubt that the new model will continue to be one of the most spacious models in the segment. We already mentioned the possibility of a three-row version, which is already available in the current generation on certain markets. However, we believe Honda would offer a slightly stretched wheelbase in this case, making a relatively decent amount of passenger room in the third row.

When it comes to the powertrain, we expect no surprises. The current model comes standard with a 1.5-liter turbo-four, which features a max output of 190 horsepower. It offers pretty impressive dynamics for the class, so we presume that the new generation will continue in the same way, with minor power increase only.

Of course, the 2022 Honda CR-V Hybrid will arrive as well. The current model uses the same system as the Accord, based on a 2.0-liter naturally-aspirated inline-four, with a max output of 212 horsepower. We presume that the new model would use the same or similar system, with upgrades in terms of power and efficiency.

2022 Honda CR-V Release Date and Price

At this point, we know that the 2022 Honda CR-V release date should happen sometime late in the year. However, we can’t say anything more precisely. When it comes to the price, we expect that things won’t be much different compared to the current model, which starts at around 26.000 dollars. When it comes to the competition, some of the key rivals are models like Toyota RAV4, Nissan Rogue, Subaru Forester, VW Tiguan etc.
