2022 Hyundai Santa Fe: PHEV, Hybrid, Changes, Release Date

The recent update of the popular crossover has brought a significantly improved styling, as well as other kinds of updates but it looks like that’s not all. The next year is also about to bring novelties, pretty big ones. The 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid is the thing that is coming for the next year and it looks like it will be pretty capable. At this point, we already know most details about this powertrain, but we are not sure about its place in the lineup.

On the other side, the rest of the lineup is about to continue in the same way. You may count on a familiar design, presented last year, which offers attractive styling, nice and practical interior and a long list of standard and available equipment. We don’t expect that the next year could bring anything more important in terms of standard and available features. Also, the standard model will probably hit the market late in the year, while the hybrid will arrive earlier.

Without any doubt, this is the biggest novelty for the next year. The new powertrain seems pretty advanced we are sure it will be able to provide respectable performances. The whole system is based on a familiar 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine, which puts out around 177 horsepower. It comes in a combination of a 90-hp electric motor and a 12.4-inch battery. The total output goes around 260 horsepower, which should be enough to provide solid performances.

The company claims 33 miles per gallon in a combined ride, which sounds good, but we will see how big are the numbers in real life. The same thing goes for the all-electric range, which should go around 30 miles, according to the company.

The rest of the lineup will remain pretty much the same. Of course, there is a recently-added hybrid version, which is based on a 1.6-liter turbo-four. This engine comes in a combination with a 60-hp electric motor, while the total output goes around 225 horsepower. The company claims 34 miles per gallon in a combined ride.

Of course, there are also two familiar gasoline engines on the offer. Base models will carry on with a good-old 2.5-liter four-cylinder unit, which puts out around 191 horsepower and 182 pound-feet of torque. This engine comes in pair with 8-speed automatic transmission.

Finally, there is a 2.5-liter turbo-four, which is good for about 277 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque. Obviously, it is the fastest model in the lineup, which also comes with a fast-shifting 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. At this point, this engine is reserved for Calligraphy models only.

This aspect definitely won’t bring changes, as the recent update was pretty impressive. Last year, we saw a significant makeover, which included a new cascading grille, lots of new lighting groups and a revised bumper, which all made this crossover look way more futuristic. The rear end included a couple of interesting changes too, so there is no doubt that the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe will carry on in the same way. Still, we won’t exclude the possibility to see new color options and similar things.

The same thing goes for the interior design. The recent update has brought a completely new center stack, which includes a new infotainment screen, a new digital gear selector and few more revisions. There is also a new digital instrument cluster. Other than that, things remained pretty much the same, which is generally a good thing, considering that Santa Fe features a handsome and well-built cabin.

On the other side, most rivals are more practical. While the amount of passenger space is more than okay in both rows of seats, the cargo area lags behind rivals in terms of capacity. You may count on about 35.9 cubic feet behind the second row and 71.3 cubic feet of the total cargo volume. Not just rivals are better in this aspect, but several compact crossovers as well.

When it comes to standard equipment, already base models come with an 8-inch touchscreen, wireless smartphone integration, alloy wheels and similar things. In higher trim levels, you may count on a bigger 10.25-inch touchscreen, premium audio system, panoramic sunroof, leather upholstery etc. Range-topping models bring goodies like 20-inch wheels, unique styling, ambient lighting and more.
