2022 Hyundai Tucson Full Review: Specs and Features

The new Tucson is here and it looks like it’s about to set new standards in the segment. We can see a lot of improvement in the new generation, especially in terms of comfort and convenience. In this aspect, it seems like the 2022 Hyundai Tucson has taken one of the leading positions in the class. It is stylish, comfortable and plush. Also, there is a bunch of the latest tech features, which makes this SUV look like a real premium product.

On the other hand, the mechanical aspect doesn’t bring such radical improvements. The engine has remained pretty much the same as in the previous generation. Still, the new chassis definitely has a big impact on the overall ride quality. The new model is comfortable, but dynamic enough to satisfy an average driver. Finally, there is a pretty impressive list of standard and available equipment, which makes Tucson an impressive value for the money.

The fourth generation of Tucson brings novelties in every aspect. It rides on a new platform and one of the first things you’ll notice is a new chassis setup. The new model drives better and it is notably more comfortable. It is also bigger than before, which has a nice impact on interior space. We will get on that in a minute.

Still, the most notable change is the styling. While the previous generation was characterized by a quite conservative aesthetical approach, the new 2022 Hyundai Tucson brings some pretty radical design solutions. That’s particularly in terms of the front end, which is highlighted by a massive grille with a 3D pattern and shape that mimics wings or something like that. The headlights design is perfectly integrated with the grille and the whole package feels more premium than before.

Interior

This is the aspect where we can see the biggest improvement. The new cabin looks just amazing, starting from the build quality, which is excellent. Also, pretty much all of the cabin is wrapped with soft-touch, quality materials, which is something you wouldn’t expect to get in this class. Along with nice materials, there is also very good sound insulation, so the ride is quiet at higher speeds as well. Higher trim levels also come with a bigger touchscreen and digital instrument cluster, which make the cabin look even more upscale.

Besides great overall quality, the cabin is also pretty spacious. The wheelbase is slightly longer than before, so there is even more legroom for the passengers. Both rows accommodate adults with ease, while the front seats are also massive and supportive. The cargo area offers around 38.7 cubic feet of cargo space behind its rear seats and 74.8 cubic feet in total, which is on par with class leaders like Honda CR-V, Subaru Forester etc.

Features

The new 2022 Hyundai Tucson is very generous with standard equipment. You may count on goodies like an 8-inch touch screen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, two USB ports, HD Radio, and a six-speaker stereo. The list of standard equipment also includes safety features like a rearview camera, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, automatic high beams etc.

There is much more to get in higher trims. For example, there are goodies like a 10.25-inch touch screen, a 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster, navigation, wireless device charging, satellite radio, an eight-speaker Bose stereo, two rear-seat USB ports, dual-zone automatic climate control, proximity keyless entry, push-button start, a digital key, and a panoramic sunroof. Also, there are available safety features like blind-sport monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, rear-collision warning, front and rear parking sensors, surround-view camera etc.

2022 Hyundai Tucson Engine

At this point, the 2022 Hyundai Tucson is available with just one powertrain option. That is a 2.5-liter inline-four, which puts out around 187 horsepower. It comes in pair with 8-speed automatic transmission. The transmission is smooth and shifts on time. However, the SUV would definitely use more power. The average fuel economy goes around 26 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway, which is good for the class.

In the future, we expect that the Korean manufacturer will introduce two more powertrain options. We expect to see both hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants, with 225 and 265 horsepower, respectively. These two models would also come with dual-clutch automatic transmission.
