2022 Infiniti QX60 Redesign: What We Know So Far

The new generation of Infiniti’s mid-size crossover is finally coming, after eight years. Nissan’s luxury division is going through rough times these days and definitely needs a gamechanger, a model that will boost sales numbers. Can the new 2022 Infiniti QX60 do that? It’s hard to tell at this point but judging on the photos and all the things we know so far, the new model looks quite promising.

At this point, we know for sure that the new model will get significant upgrades in various aspects, starting from mechanics and ride quality. The styling is expected to be heavily inspired by the Monograph concept, while the interior design should bring significant improvements in terms of quality and style. Furthermore, we count on new engine options in the offer, which would replace the aging V6. More importantly, it looks like the QX60 will finally drop CVT and switch to an automatic gearbox. The new model is about to hit the market sometime in the second half of the year.

2022 Infiniti QX60 Redesign

Of course, the first thing about the redesign that comes to mind is styling, but we would rather start with more basic things. This leads us to the platform. The current model rides on a well-known D platform and it looks like the new 2022 Infiniti QX60 will continue to use it. However, this proven architecture will get a significant update and upgrades. One of the first things we should mention is weight reduction, considering that the new model will utilize much more aluminum and HSS. The new model will be lighter but it will also feature a stiffer platform.

Naturally, we count on a new suspension setup as well. At this point, we don’t know the details, but we presume that the new model will also be on the soft side, though we would definitely like to see more engaging handling.

Exterior Design

When it comes to the styling, the recently presented QX60 Monograph concept is our key reference. That concept looked very production-friendly, so we are pretty sure that the final version won’t be much different. We expect to see the same approach, which brings the evolution of the current model’s styling. For this occasion, we would see rather sharper lines, which would make the new model look modern, without changing its basic styling philosophy, which is all about the sleek profile and long and curvy lines.

In terms of size, we don’t expect to see bigger changes either. The current generation already features quite typical dimensions for the segment, with 114.2 inches in wheelbase. Of course, the distance between the axles will probably be slightly longer, just like the overall length. Furthermore, we expect that the new model will also be slightly wider.

Interior

This is the aspect that needs the biggest improvement. If you look at the current model, it’s obvious that it hasn’t aged pretty well and that pretty much all competitors look way better from the inside. Materials aren’t particularly great, while aesthetics definitely belong to the previous decade of the automotive industry.

We’ve managed to get a couple of spy shots that show the inside of the 2022 Infiniti QX60 and things look very promising. The first thing we’ve noticed is a large and wide infotainment screen, which features a tablet-like shape and looks pretty upscale. Also, the center stack kept lots of physical controls, which is a rare thing these days and which is something many drivers will definitely appreciate. We can also see a new steering wheel, and a part of the instrument cluster, which looks like it will keep an analog speedometer and rev counter. Finally, it’s easy to notice that fancy stitching on the dash, as well as a lot of chrome details.

2022 Infiniti QX60 Engines

Big changes are coming under the hood as well. Most likely, the well-known 3.5-liter V6 will be replaced with something smaller and more efficient. That would certainly be the company’s familiar 2.0-liter turbo-four with variable compression. For this occasion, it will probably be tuned up to around 300 horsepower.

More importantly, the new 2022 Infiniti QX60 will drop the CVT gearbox. Instead, we will see a classic automatic transmission, which will significantly improve the driving experience. We expect that will be the company’s new 9-speed unit.

Some rumors also suggest a performance version of the new 2022 Infiniti QX60. Most likely, that version would use a familiar 3.0-liter turbo V6, which puts out around 400 horsepower.

We expect to see 2022 Infiniti QX60 sometime in the second half of the year. We will probably see a slight price increase compared to the outgoing model, which starts at around 45.000 dollars. Key competitors are models like Acura MDX, Volvo XC90, Cadillac XT6 etc.
