The current generation of the famous SUV has been around for a quite long time and it looks like it will stay in production for a little bit more. The company is currently finalizing new models like Grand Cherokee and Wagoneer, so the next-generation Cherokee will have to wait a little bit more for its turn. This clearly indicates that the 2022 Jeep Cherokee will continue without more important changes. We are about to see a familiar layout, which still has some pretty good things to offer, despite the age.
What we really like about the current-generation Cherokee is its off-road capability. Furthermore, we like the overall design, as well as the intuitive infotainment system. On the other hand, there are also few things to complain about, such as subpar interior quality, small cargo area and weak base engine.
Considering that there are no significant changes to come for the next year, we are pretty sure that the 2022 Jeep Cherokee won’t hit the market before the last quarter of the year.
2022 Jeep Cherokee Design
As we’ve just mentioned, the current generation of this compact SUV has been around for a while. It was originally introduced in 2013, so we can say that pretty much all rivals are younger. However, keep in mind that this model was refreshed in 2017. For that occasion, we saw a completely new front end and we can say that it still looks quite attractive.
The on-road ride quality isn’t spectacular but on the other hand, no other compact SUV can match Cherokee’s off-road capabilities. All models come standard with a five-mode Selec-Terrain traction management system. Additionally, you can get goodies like hill descent control and low-range gearing, while the Trailhawk offers even more. This trim level comes with goodies like an Active Drive Lock four-wheel-drive system, all-terrain tires, off-road suspension, and mechanical locking differential.
Interior
The 2022 Jeep Cherokee interior shouldn’t change either. We are about to see a familiar layout, which isn’t the nicest in the class but still has a couple of good things to offer. We like that both rows of seats are spacious and accommodate adults with ease. Also, the driving position is good and ensures good visibility in all directions.
On the other hand, the dashboard looks a little bit outdated. Also, the materials aren’t the finest around, while some areas even come with cheap plastics and similar things.
Another complaint goes to the cargo area. This compact SUV offers around 27 cubic feet behind the second row and 55 cubic feet of the total cargo volume. While that’s not exactly terrible, most rivals offer more room, especially when it comes to total volume.
Features
Yearly updates usually bring few new things to the list of standard and available equipment. The 2022 Jeep Cherokee could be the same but we don’t expect to see anything significant. Instead, most of the things should remain the same as in the current model, which comes standard with a 7-inch touch screen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, voice recognition, Bluetooth, a USB port, and a six-speaker stereo. There are also a lot of optional features and some of them could become standard. Some of the highlights are goodies like an 8.4-inch touch screen, a Wi-Fi hot spot, navigation, satellite radio, HD Radio, an additional front USB port, two rear USB ports, a nine-speaker Alpine premium stereo, proximity keyless entry, remote start, a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, a household-style power outlet, dual-zone automatic climate control, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster display, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and a universal garage door opener.
When it comes to safety features, the current model comes standard forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and a rearview camera.
2022 Jeep Cherokee Engines
The 2022 Jeep Cherokee should continue with three familiar engines on the offer. So, base versions will feature a good-old 2.4-liter inline-four, which puts out around 180 horsepower. It feels a little bit underpowered, so one of the two optional engines would be a much better choice. The first one is a 3.3-liter V6, which puts out 271 horsepower and offers notably better performance.
Still, the recently added 2.0-liter turbo-four is definitely the best choice. It has way more torque than the V6 and it’s also much more efficient.
All three engines come in pair with a 9-speed automatic transmission.
2022 Jeep Cherokee Release Date and Price
We expect that the 2022 Jeep Cherokee will hit the market sometime in the last quarter of the year, with a starting price of around 27.000 dollars. Key competitors are models like Hyundai Tucson, Ford Bronco Sport, Mazda CX-5 etc.
