If you’re looking for a small crossover, this model should definitely be on your shortlist. Simply, it still looks fresh and has so many good things to offer. It’s been around since 2020, so we are pretty sure that the 2022 Mazda CX-30 will come without more important changes. Of course, few tweaks here and there are always possible, but we have no doubt that most of the things are about to remain the same.
This means that you may count on a crossover that has a lot of things to offer, besides its gorgeous styling. We like its luxurious cabin, while the optional turbo-four engine feels really peppy. Also, the handling is amazing, while the list of standard equipment is quite long. On the other hand, the biggest complaints go to the base engine, which would use more power, as well as to the transmission, which is starting to feel a little bit old.
Considering that there are no significant changes to come, we presume that the 2022 Mazda CX-30 will hit the market sometime late in the year.
2022 Mazda CX-30 Design
The current model has been around since 2020. Therefore, it feels very fresh in many aspects. It is heavily based on the Mazda 3 hatchback and it shares most of the parts, whether it’s about mechanics or aesthetics. We particularly like the suspension and chassis setup. Just like the hatchback sibling, this model is also characterized by a sporty ride, which combines direct steering with composed handling. If you’re looking for a comfortable, soft-suspension crossover, this one probably isn’t for you.
Aesthetically, there is nothing to complain about. The current model is fitted to Mazda’s latest design language, so we don’t expect to see changes for the next year. Still, things like new color options are always possible.
Once again, we don’t expect to see bigger changes, especially not on the inside. This model already features one of the nicest cabins in the class. It comes with elegant, simplistic aesthetics, which look great in a combination with soft-touch materials that are all around the cabin. The materials and build quality are at a super high level. Of course, the long list of tech features makes everything look even more upscale.
When it comes to interior space, the front seats offer all the comfort you need. There is plenty of space, while the seats are massive and supportive. Furthermore, the driving position is excellent in terms of ergonomics, though the rearward visibility isn’t great, due to thick rear pillars.
The second row is a little bit different story and taller passengers may have trouble sitting comfortably. When it comes to the cargo area, you may count on about 20 cubic feet behind the second row and 45 cubic feet with these seats folded down.
A few new things on the list of standard equipment are always possible but we are pretty sure that the 2022 Mazda CX-30 won’t change too much in this aspect. So, base models should come standard with goodies like a 7-inch digital instrument cluster display, an 8.8-inch infotainment display, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, a Wi-Fi hot spot, HD Radio, voice recognition, an eight-speaker stereo, Bluetooth, and two USB ports. Additionally, there are upgrades like navigation, wireless device charging, a 12-speaker Bose premium stereo, and satellite radio, a frameless auto-dimming rearview mirror, a universal garage door opener, LED interior lighting, dual-zone automatic climate control, proximity keyless entry, and a moonroof.
When it comes to safety, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, low-speed automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, automatic high-beam headlights, driver attention monitoring, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and a rearview camera. Additionally, there are upgrades like blind-spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, a head-up display, adaptive headlights, reverse automatic emergency braking, traffic jam assist, a surround-view parking camera system, and traffic sign recognition.
2022 Mazda CX-30 Engines
Under the hood, the 2022 Mazda CX-30 will continue with two familiar powertrain options. Base models will continue with a naturally-aspirated 2.5-liter engine, which puts out 186 horsepower. That’s enough for daily commuting but more ambitious drivers would probably like to see something peppier under the hood. For them, the optional turbo-four is a perfect choice. That engine puts out 227 horsepower on regular fuel and 250 horsepower on premium fuel, which is more than enough for a great driving experience.
Both engines come with a 6-speed automatic transmission which works okay, though it’s not particularly quick with shifts. The base engine returns around 25 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway, which is about average for the class. The optional turbo-four is a little bit thirstier.
2022 Mazda CX-30 Release Date and Price
We expect that the 2022 Mazda CX-30 will arrive sometime in the last quarter of the year, with a starting price of around 22.500 dollars. Models like Hyundai Kona, Subaru Crosstrek and Honda HR-V are some of the key competitors.
