2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro: What to Expect

The new generation of Toyota’s full-size pickup truck is finally coming, for the first time in 14 years. Besides standard models, we are also eagerly waiting to see the 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro, which will represent the most capable variant of the truck in terms of off-roading. We expect that this version will come along with the rest of the lineup, but with significant upgrades and lots of exclusive features, even more than in the outgoing model.

So far, the Japanese manufacturer has managed to keep most details as secret. So, the only thing we can do is to speculate. We presume that the new model will come with even more off-road hardware than before, but also with loads of exclusive features in terms of styling and interior design. Furthermore, there is a big chance to see this truck with a hybrid powertrain, for the first time.

When it comes to the 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro release date, we expect that the new model will come along with the rest of the lineup, sometime in the last quarter of the year.

2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro Design

In terms of base design characteristics, the new 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro won’t be much different compared to standard models. The upcoming redesign is about to bring a lot of novelties and one of the first things that come to mind is the platform. That will be a body-on-frame version of the company’s new TNGA platform, which will bring massive weight savings, a lower center of gravity and other improvements.

In the case of this particular version, we count on further upgrades. Compared to standard models, you may count on some pretty serious off-road hardware. For example, there are things like upgraded off-road suspension with FOX shocks, skid plates, tow hooks, locking differentials, two-speed transfer case, off-road tires etc.

Styling

Aesthetically, the new model will follow the rest of the lineup. This means basically the same styling, which will bring rather evolutionary changes compared to the outgoing model. Of course, there will be a full load of exclusive styling details. You may count on a unique front bumper, as well as on things like wheels, body kit etc.

This version will probably be offered in two cab styles, both in Double Cab and CrewMax versions. Also, 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro colors might be another exclusive feature, just like in the current model, which comes with an Army Green finish that can’t be found on any other version of Tundra. More details will be known once the new model takes off the camouflage.

Interior

Like other versions of the truck, the 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro interior will also come completely new. The current model looks quite outdated from the inside and this change is more than needed. Therefore, we count on big improvements from the new generation, which should bring much more attractive aesthetics, finer materials and more tech goodies. Speaking of tech goodies, we count on a massive touchscreen and loads of advanced safety features.

In the case of the Tundra TRD Pro, one of the first exclusive features that come to mind is the color scheme. The current model comes with a completely black interior and we expect that the new model will continue in the same way. Also, we count on a lot of exclusive details, such as “TRD Pro” badges, gear shifter etc.

We expect that the 2022 Tundra TRD Pro will be offered both in Double and CrewMax cab styles.

2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro Engine

This is definitely one of the most interesting aspects of the 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro. At this point, we are still waiting for the details but it seems pretty much certain that the next generation of this truck will drop that thirsty V8 engine, in favor of a turbocharged V6. We are talking about Lexus’s 3.4-liter turbo V6, which puts out around 414 horsepower. That seems like a proper amount of power for a Tundra, but we won’t be surprised if we see some additional power boost in this case.

Also, we can hear a lot of talk about the hybrid version. Ultimately, this powertrain could find its place under the hood of the 2022 Tundra TRD Pro as well. We are talking about a system that is based on a V6 engine, which could come with a total output of more than 450 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque.

In both cases, we would expect to see a new 10-speed automatic transmission.
