2023 BMW X4 Preview, Specs, Features

After the last year’s update, we expect that the current generation of BMW’s coupe crossover will remain in production for a few more years. Simply, the recent update included all kinds of novelties, particularly in terms of styling. That’s why it’s pretty easy to conclude that the 2023 BMW X4 will feature no bigger changes. Of course, minor updates are always possible but the overall layout will certainly remain the same.

All in all, you may count on an attractive crossover, which offers a lot of great things but also comes with certain compromises. The latter particularly refers to the sloping roof design, which is the main reason for the lack of rear-seat headroom and small cargo area. On the other hand, we like how this SUV drives. It comes with capable engine options, while the handling is sporty and very engaging. Furthermore, we like the interior design, as well as the intuitive infotainment system.

Since no bigger changes are about to come, we expect that the 2023 BMW X4 will hit the market sometime in the last quarter of the year.

2023 BMW X4 Design

Design-wise, the 2023 BMW X4 will continue in the same way. The recent update has brought a lot of styling updates, so it’s easy to predict that the next year could only bring minor tweaks, such as new color options. The recent update brought new headlights, new grille, bumpers and similar things, so the next year’s model could only carry on in the same way.

Besides the attractive coupe SUV layout, this SUV also offers excellent mechanics. Besides smooth engines, it also offers a pretty impressive chassis setup, which ensures a great driving experience. The handling is pretty engaging and the whole vehicle provides a great driving experience. However, a good thing to know is that the high level of athleticism doesn’t sacrifice comfort too much. This is still a pretty smooth and comfortable vehicle to drive.

Interior

The cabin design is a kind of a mixed bag. Simply, the coupe SUV layout means a lot of compromises. Due to the sloping roof design, the second row of seats isn’t particularly generous with headroom. Still, there are no issues with legroom. The long wheelbase ensures plenty of legroom in both rows of seats. The front seats are also massive and well-shaped, with excellent support. The driving position is excellent in terms of ergonimics, though rearward visibility could be better.

The cargo area also suffers from the sloping roof design. As a result, you get no more than 18.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind its rear seats and 50.5 cubic feet, which is pretty low for a compact SUV.

On the other hand, there is really nothing to complain about regarding interior quality. Moreover, we are actually impressed with the dashboard design, materials and overall build quality. A combination of conservative aesthetics and high-quality materials works great in this case.

Features

We don’t expect bigger changes in this aspect, though certain tweaks to the list of standard and available features are always possible. The list of standard equipment should include things like remote keyless entry, push-button start, tri-zone climate control, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch touch screen, navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, two USB ports, a Wi-Fi hot spot, HD Radio, and a 12-speaker stereo. The list of upgrades should include goodies like gesture control, satellite radio, a 16-speaker stereo etc.

When it comes to safety, all models should come standard with goodies like a rearview camera, parking sensors, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high beams etc.

2023 BMW X4 Engines

The 2023 BMW X4 will continue with four familiar powertrain options. The base X4 30i will continue with a 2.0-liter turbo-four, which puts out around 250 horsepower and offers pretty decent driving dynamics. More ambitious drivers would probably pick the M40i model, which comes with a 3.0-liter inline-four, which puts out around 382 horsepower.

The 2023 BMW X4 M will continue with the same twin-turbo inline-six, which puts out around 473 horsepower. Finally, there is the M Competition model, which adds 30 more horsepower, for the total output of 503 ponies.

All engines come coupled with an excellent 8-speed automatic transmission.

We expect that the 2023 BMW X4 will hit the market sometime in the last quarter of the year, with a starting price of around 53.000 dollars. The number of coupe SUVs is getting bigger every year and currently, models like Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe and Infiniti QX55 are some of the key competitors.
