2023 Cadillac Lyriq Preview: What We Know and What We Expect

As you probably heard, GM plans to introduce 20 new all-electric vehicles in the next three years and among them, the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq is definitely one of the most anticipated. The new electric crossover has already been presented in a concept version, which shows some interesting styling bits. Allegedly, most of these design solutions will carry on to the production model. According to the manufacturer, the launch will happen sometime in the second half of 2022.

As you can see, we are still far from the launch but some of the things about the new crossover we already know. This doesn’t refer just to the styling, but also to some pretty interesting technology achievements, such as the new Ultium battery design, which allows all kinds of batteries in terms of size. The new crossover will be compact in size and Cadillac promises respectable numbers in terms of range and performances. Furthermore, we count on Cadillac’s typical level of luxury and the production version probably won’t go far away from the concept from the inside.

The 2023 Cadillac Lyriq will be the company’s first all-electric crossover and as you may presume, it will ride on GM’s new EV architecture, a platform that will underprint pretty much all of those 20 EV models that are coming in the next three years. At this point, we know for sure that the new crossover will be compact in size, with dimensions similar to models like XT4 and XT5. The new architecture will bring a lot of benefits and one of the first things that come to mind is that the battery will be positioned under the floor. Therefore, the ground clearance will be smaller compared to traditional crossover, but this also means a significantly lower center of gravity, which in practice means better overall performances.

When it comes to the styling, we are currently relying on the concept version, which looks really amazing. It brings the brand’s new styling philosophy, which looks pretty aggressive but keeps a dose of elegance as well. Compared to the current design language, everything looks significantly sharper. The grille is huge, while headlights are super-narrow. Furthermore, the overall body looks sleeker, while the sloping roofline makes the vehicle look like a typical coupe crossover. According to the company, about 80-85 percent of the design is finished, which indicates that the final appearance won’t be much different compared to the concept and that most of these fancy design solutions will remain in the production model as well.

Interior

On the inside, we expect that the production model won’t be less exciting than the concept. This particularly refers to the dashboard design, which looks really amazing. Of course, the huge 33-inch screen dominates the cabin, just like in the new Escalade. However, while the luxury BoF SUV features three separated units integrated into one screen, this electric crossover packs everything much smoother, so the instrument cluster and infotainment system are packed into a single rounded screen.

The rest of the cabin looks elegant and very luxurious, while the materials are really fine. We particularly like the center console, which is massive and bold and separates seats in such a nice way. Speaking about the seats, the concept version features a typical coupe, 2+2 seating configuration. On the other side, we think that the production model would rather feature a rear bench, or we might see both variants in the offer.

Naturally, the new crossover will come with all kinds of advanced features, including lots of driver-assistance features. This may include the company’s new Super Cruise technology as well, though we are still waiting to hear the details from GM officials.

When it comes to performances, Cadillac still keeps details a secret. We don’t know the numbers but we expect to see at least two configurations. Base models will come with a single electric motor, mounted on the rear axle, while higher trim levels should add one more unit at the front. So, we would see an AWD layout and more power in this case. Unfortunately, the numbers are still unavailable.

The battery will feature a new, so-called Ultium technology, which will allow all various capacities in use. However, this particular model will probably feature a 100-kWh pack. This should ensure a max range of more than 300 miles. Of course, we count on all kinds of charging options, including a fast-charger and other typical variants.

According to the company, the new 2023 Cadillac Lyriq will arrive sometime in the second half of 2022. Base models will probably go around 60.000 dollars, though it is still early for more precise numbers. Some of the potential rivals could be models like Tesla Model 3, Jaguar I-Pace, Audi Q4 e-tron, Mustang Mach-e etc.
