2023 Chevrolet Trax Preview: Changes, Features, Specs

A few years ago, GM presented a revived Trailblazer and we all believed that the company would finally discontinue Chevy Trax, which has been in production for more than a decade. However, this small crossover still remains in production, despite some outdated design solutions. Simply, it still marks good sales numbers and there is no need for such a move. Moreover, it looks like the company wants to bring a few minor updates for the 2023 Chevrolet Trax. At this point, we don’t know the details, but we presume this refers to things like new color options and a few additions to the list of standard equipment.

All in all, the 2023 Chevrolet Trax will continue with familiar design characteristics. This SUV still has a couple of good things to offer, despite the age. For example, the infotainment system has been updated and feels pretty intuitive, while many drivers appreciate its high maneuverability and surprisingly engaging handling. On the other hand, the biggest complaints go to the outdated interior design, lack of modern features and a firm ride.

We expect that the 2023 Chevrolet Trax will hit the market sometime in the last quarter of the year.

2023 Chevrolet Trax Design

As we’ve just mentioned, the 2023 Chevrolet Trax might come with a few minor updates, but that primarily refers to things like new color options etc. On the other hand, the overall layout will remain the same. This crossover has been around for more than a decade and it was updated just once, in 2017. For that occasion, we saw a new front end, which is the part of the vehicle that keeps Trax looking attractive even today. On the other hand, the rear end hasn’t changed for a long time and looks really outdated.

Mechanically, this crossover is based on a good-old Gamma II platform, which has been in use since the early 2000s. This is particularly easy to notice in terms of the suspension setup, which feels a little too firm by today’s standards. Still, you get pretty good handling in return.

Interior

On the inside, the 2023 Chevrolet Trax will continue in the same way. That means that you may count on a cabin design that definitely shows its age. The dashboard looks outdated, despite the relatively new infotainment screen. It’s pretty easy to notice that most of the cabin is covered with low-rent materials, while the build quality isn’t particularly impressive either.

On the other hand, there is nothing to complain about regarding interior space. Some rivals may offer more space, but there is still plenty of room for adult passengers in both rows. However, the seats feel too firm and lack side support.

The cargo area is typical for this segment. It offers around 18.7 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats and 48.4 cubic feet of the total cargo volume.

Features

We don’t expect bigger changes in this aspect, though there is always room for some additions to the list of standard equipment. All in all, base models should come standard with goodies like keyless entry, a 7-inch touch screen, a six-speaker stereo, satellite radio, a Wi-Fi hot spot, two USB ports, Bluetooth, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay. The list of options isn’t long and includes only a couple of options, such as remote start and cruise control.

When it comes to safety features, it’s easy to notice that some modern systems are missing, due to the outdated platform. Therefore, a rearview camera is the only standard safety feature. Additionally, you can get goodies like blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, rear parking sensors etc.

2023 Chevrolet Trax Engine

Things under the hood definitely won’t change and the 2023 Chevrolet Trax will continue with just one engine option on the offer. That would be a good-old 1.4-liter turbo-four, developed by Opel. This engine puts out around 155 horsepower and offers decent driving dynamics. The engine comes in pair with a 6-speed automatic transmission which is slow but shifts pretty smoothly.

When it comes to fuel economy, you may count on pretty decent ratings. Base models return around 24 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway. On the other hand, models with all-wheel drive are good for about 23 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway.

2023 Chevrolet Trax Release Date and Price

We expect that the 2023 Chevrolet Trax will hit the market sometime in the last quarter of the year, with a starting price of around 22.000 dollars. Key competitors should be models like Ford EcoSport, Nissan Kicks etc.
