2023 Chevy Trailblazer Preview: Specs, Features, Changes

Chevy’s well-known nameplate came back to the U.S. market a couple of years ago in the form of a subcompact crossover. Considering that the current model is still quite fresh and competitive, we don’t believe that the 2023 Chevy Trailblazer could bring more important updates. Instead, the only thing we could see are minor updates, such as new additions to the list of standard features, or things like new color options. Other than that, things will remain the same.

This means that the 2023 Chevy Trailblazer will continue to deliver familiar pros and cons. What we really like about this crossover is its spacious cabin, with lots of passenger and cargo space. Also, we like the intuitive infotainment system, while the Activ trim also offers decent off-road capability. On the other hand, the biggest complaints go to things like unimpressive powertrain options, as well as subpar interior quality.

As there are no significant changes to come, we presume that the 2023 Chevy Trailblazer will hit the market sometime in the last quarter of the year.

2023 Chevy Trailblazer Design

Design-wise, the next year’s model should carry on in the same way. The current generation has been around for only a couple of years and we presume it’s still early for mid-cycle updates. Therefore, you may count on the familiar styling, we could be updated with minor things like new color options, or a new appearance package. Other than that, things will remain the same.

The same thing goes for the mechanics. This crossover rides on the company’s new VSS platform, designed primarily for small cars and crossovers. The overall setup is pretty balanced and offers a nice ride quality, which offers a little bit of athleticism and a little bit of comfort. When it comes to off-road capabilities, AWD is available, while the Activ trim also brings a few more upgrades. Those are a skid plate, off-road suspension tuning, sport terrain tires etc.

Interior

Interior changes aren’t expected either. We are about to see a familiar cabin design, which offers both good and bad things. When it comes to bad things, we can talk about the build quality. It’s not particularly well, while most materials are hard plastics, which make this cabin look less upscale compared to rivals. Still, there is a long list of standard and available tech features, which makes the cabin look a little bit more upscale.

On the other hand, the thing we really like about this cabin is the amount of space. There is enough space for adults in both rows of seats, which usually isn’t the case in this segment. Furthermore, the cargo area also offers pretty respectable numbers, around 25.3 cubic feet of space with its rear seats upright and 54.4 cubic feet. Those are above-average numbers for the class.

Features

Of course, we will probably see a couple of additions to the list of standard and available equipment. However, most of the things are about to remain the same. So, the base version should come standard with keyless entry, a 7-inch touch screen, a six-speaker stereo, satellite radio, Bluetooth, USB ports, a Wi-Fi hot spot, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Among upgrades, we expect to see things like an 8-inch touch screen, additional USB ports, a seven-speaker Bose audio system, HD Radio, wireless device charging, a panoramic sunroof, automatic climate control, push-button start, and remote start.

When it comes to safety, base models should come standard with goodies like a rearview camera, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, lane departure warning etc. The list of options should include adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, rear parking sensors etc.

2023 Chevy Trailblazer Engines

This aspect of the 2023 Chevy Trailblazer definitely won’t bring any changes. You may count on a couple of familiar turbocharged three-cylinder engines. The base one is a 1.2-liter unit, which puts out 137 horsepower and comes in pair with a CVT transmission. As you may presume, performance isn’t spectacular but on the other hand, fuel economy is decent and goes around 29 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway.

We think that the optional 1.3-liter unit is a much better choice. First of all, it has more power, around 155 horses. It also comes in pair with a 9-speed automatic transmission, instead of a CVT gearbox. Furthermore, this engine can be coupled with all-wheel drive, which is not the case with the base unit. Finally, it even offers higher mpg ratings – 29 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway.

2023 Chevy Trailblazer Release Date and Price

As there are no significant changes to come, we presume that the 2023 Chevy Trailblazer will hit the market sometime in the last quarter of the year. Base models should go around 22.000 dollars. Key competitors should be models like Hyundai Kona, Nissan Kicks, Mazda CX-30 etc.
