The legendary nameplate has been revived. We already saw the pickup version and now it’s time for the SUV. According to the latest reports, the new model will arrive next year and it will also go fully electric. Expectations are huge, as the company promises some pretty big things regarding the powertrain, battery, range and the overall design. Of course, the new model will come under the GMC badge and it will feature GM’s latest Ultium battery technology, which will ensure fast charging and respectable range.
The all-new 2023 GMC Hummer EV SUV will come with recognizable styling, which closely resembles previous generations. The SUV version will come with two rows of seats and just like in the case of the pickup version, the flagship Edition 1 model will arrive first. Interestingly, the SUV will have a lower output than the pickup. Also, it will feature reduced battery capacity, due to the shorter wheelbase.
We expect to see the Edition 1 already in the next year.
2023 GMC Hummer EV SUV Design
Design-wise, the 2023 GMC Hummer EV SUV will have a lot of things in common with the new pickup. From what we know so far, it will be slightly smaller, with an 8.9-inch shorter wheelbase. This makes perfect sense if we consider the lack of a cargo bed. However, the shorter wheelbase will also bring smaller battery capacity. AS you probably already know, the new Hummer features a battery that’s positioned under the floor and a shorter distance between the axle automatically means a smaller battery.
Visually, we expect the same design as on the pickup, at least when it comes to the front-end design. Also, the Edition 1 model will be characterized by massive 22-inch wheels. Another thing to mention is that all models will feature removable doors and roof panels.
When it comes to the interior design, things will look pretty much the same as in the pickup. Despite the size, the new SUV won’t be offered with three rows. Instead, we will see a five-seat configuration, which indices a generous cargo area as well.
We count the same dashboard design, which features a futuristic/minimalist design approach with simple lines and pointed-out screens – a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 13.4-inch infotainment screen.
Just like the pickup, the 2023 GMC Hummer EV SUV will also come with a lot of details that celebrate GM’s involvement in the lunar rover development. This particularly refers to the dead pedal that resembles moon footprints, as well as speaker covers that feature the Sea of Tranquility outlines.
2023 GMC Hummer EV SUV Powertrain
When it comes to the powertrain and performance, the Edition 1 will come first and it will be the most capable variant on the offer, with a total output of 830 horsepower. Interestingly, that’s 170 horsepower less than the pickup sibling. Still, that will be enough power to ensure 0-60 spring in just 3.5 seconds.
Of course, you may count on the same 350-kW fast charging. As we already mentioned, the battery will be smaller and should ensure 300 miles of the all-electric range.
Off-Road Package for Off-Road Enthusiasts
The new SUV will also be available with the extreme off-road package, which will bring a full load of upgrades. From what we know so far, this package will include various things, starting from 18-inch wheels with 35-inch mud-terrain tires, skid plates, rock sliders, a front electronically locking differential, rear motors that can electronically mimic a locked diff, heavy-duty half-shafts, and underbody cameras. We expect that this package will cost around 5.000 dollars.
2023 GMC Hummer EV SUV Release Date and Price
The initial, Edition 1 version will arrive in the next year, while the rest of the lineup will come in 2024. The Edition 1 will cost around $105.000, while base versions are expected to cost around 80.000 dollars.
