2023 Infiniti QX70 Comeback Has Been Rumored

If we can trust the latest rumors, Nissan’s luxury division is seriously considering bringing back the well-known QX70 nameplate. Back in the day, this model succeeded the even more famous FX model, as a part of the new naming policy. The nameplate was used between 2013 and 2017 when the model was discontinued. Nowadays, the company is seriously considering the revival of this model, which could come already in the next year, as the 2023 Infiniti QX70.

At this point, not many details are known about the potentially revived model. Still, some things are relatively easy to be predicted, starting from the platform, which probably won’t be RWD-biased, like in the case of the old model. Instead, the new generation would probably share most of its parts with the recently redesigned QX-60.

So far, the officials have been quiet about the new 2023 Infiniti QX70, so make sure to take the following paragraphs with reserve.

2023 Infiniti QX70 Design

At this point, the officials are still quiet about the 2023 Infiniti QX70 comeback, so we could only speculate about design characteristics. There are two possible scenarios in the game, more and less likely paths.

According to the first scenario, the 2023 Infiniti QX70 would stick to its roots. In that case, we would see the same layout as in the previous case, with the rear-wheel-drive platform and a sportier overall design approach. However, the problem with such a design approach is that Infiniti hasn’t been working on new RWD vehicles for a long time. The last time we saw such a vehicle was in 2016, when the second generation of Q50/Q60 was introduced. This would mean that the new QX70 would still ride on an old FM platform, which would definitely need some updates to remain relevant on the market.

QX60-Based Design – More Probable Scenario

Despite all the benefits of the RWD platform, we are pretty sure that Infiniti engineers would stick to something simpler, something that requires fewer resources. That’s why the most probable scenario is the one where the 2023 Infiniti QX70 comes heavily based on the QX60 SUV. Most of the parts would be shared, especially in terms of mechanics, where the new QX70 would ride on the good-old D platform.

Of course, we would see a lot of similarities in terms of aesthetics as well. The new model would feature the same or very similar front-end design, while the main difference will be at the back, where the new model would come with a sloping roof, which would provide that coupe-like layout.

Interior

Probably the biggest benefit of the QX60-based design would be on the inside. We would expect to see the same dashboard design, which looks pretty amazing in the new three-row SUV. The materials are really nice, while the dash looks very stylish and premium. Of course, there is also a generous amount of latest tech features, including a massive infotainment screen, digital instrument cluster, various connectivity features etc.

Considering the coupe SUV layout, we presume that the 2023 Infiniti QX70 would come with two rows of seats. As the wheelbase would be the same as on the QX60, there is no doubt there would be plenty of space in both rows. Adults should accommodate with ease in both rows. Also, considering that Nissan/Infiniti makes some of the nicest seats on the market, we have big expectations in this aspect as well.

2023 Infiniti QX70 Engines

The engine lineup would largely depend on the platform. In a less probable scenario with a longitudinally-mounted engine and RWD layout, we presume that the focus would be on turbocharged V6 engines. The era of good-old 3.7 V6 and 5.0-liter naturally-aspirated engines is long gone, so the main choice would be a 3.0-liter turbo V6, which would come in two output variants, with either 300 or 400 horsepower.

On the other hand, a more common setup with FWD and a longitudinally-mounted engine would bring a good-old 3.5-liter unit from QX60, with a max output of around 295 horsepower. A good thing about this engine is that the recent redesign has brought a new automatic transmission, instead of an uninspiring CVT, so the ride quality is much better now.

2023 Infiniti QX70 Release Date and Price

We presume that the 2023 Infiniti QX70 could arrive already in the next year. We estimate that the base price would go around 60.000 dollars.
