The new chapter for the large Infiniti SUV lineup is beginning. The Monograph concept introduced a couple of years ago is underpinning the new QX60. The next vehicle to be completely redesigned based on the same platform is the 2023 Infiniti QX80. The largest model in the family will have to start something new to stay competitive. We saw several new luxury SUVs being introduced in the past couple of seasons. That includes Lexus LX 600 and Toyota Land Cruiser. Now, it is Nissan’s turn to update its Armada and premium QX80.
For now, there are no details about the styling of the next-gen SUV. But, we can find a lot of things by revisiting the premiere of the Monograph concept. The look seems to be a bit futuristic, but that is exactly what the 2023 Infiniti QX80 needs. Bold styling and spacious interior are making the difference. Nevertheless, the company is ready to take another step and remove a V8 engine. Instead of the large and thirsty unit, the QX80 is going to use a turbocharged six-cylinder plant. It should increase efficiency. However, can it replace the performance and specs of the V8?
When Will the 2023 Infiniti QX80 be Available?
The release date of the all-new 2023 Infiniti QX80 is not set yet. But, a smaller QX60 is already out, presenting some of the Monograph features. It won’t take too much time for the QX80 to debut. We assume that the company is going to present the full-size SUV by the end of 2022. Sales are starting shortly after the premiere.
The price is going to be significantly higher after the redesign and all the upgrades the next generation is bringing. The current version starts from $70,000. But, if we check other new SUVs in the luxury category, we’ll spot a trend of the price increase. It is hard to find a full-size premium model under $80,000. The base version of the 2023 QX80 could cost between $85,000 and $90,000. That is where the new Lexus LX is available as well.
What is the Monograph Concept?
This platform was introduced in 2017 as the next architecture for all big SUVs from Infiniti. Well, we had to wait a few years before it took place on the QX60. The Monograph concept is anticipated as something that will make the big rigs more competitive. And the first look is more than promising. Still, the prototype is too futuristic and we don’t think the 2023 Infiniti QX80 will show up with 22-inch wheels as the base choice. Nevertheless, the first impression is stunning, thanks to the eye-catching design and lines the concept presents.
The vehicle looks big. But, according to bosses, every detail has its function. Although massive, the Monograph platform will make the QX80 very aesthetic. There will be more room inside the cockpit and the entire dashboard is digitalized. The architecture is also flexible, so it can support electric motors for future hybrid engines.
2023 Infiniti QX80 Redesign Details
Interior and exterior changes are needed to be competitive. The current design of the QX80 dates back from 2011. Although there were a few revisits in the past 10 years, the SUV is old. Designers are preparing new solutions and technologies that will stun fans and rivals.
The Monograph concept will be under review and the 2023 Infiniti QX80 will use a bigger dose of the platform than the QX60 mid-size SUV. The main goals are comfort and safety. First of all, designers will try to provide more space for passengers in all three rows. High-end versions might be available with only four or five seats. Infiniti was always up to date with the latest safety options. There are no worries that the next-gen 2023 QX80 is going to achieve the best scores on tests.
A fully-digital cabin is still too advanced an option and it will make the SUV cost too much. Nevertheless, a large infotainment screen and big gauge display are certain. Further options depend on the trim level. The 2023 Infiniti QX80 Sensory is going to offer plenty of advanced equipment, such as automatic parking, HUD, and even autonomous drive.
New Engine and Specs
Everyone is talking about the redesign since the Monograph architecture presented some solutions we will see on the upcoming QX80. But, the SUV is also coming with a new drivetrain. A 5.6-liter V8 is a reliable and powerful unit. However, it is also old and thirsty. Mano carmakers are dropping large powerplants and replacing them with smaller, turbocharged mills. That is exactly what we expect from the all-new 2023 Infiniti QX80.
A V8 was able to deliver 400 hp. Nowadays, twin-turbo V6 configurations can easily beat that. Other questions include the performance off the road, which was one of the specialties of a V8 mill. With the proper equipment, the QX80 is not going to disappoint.
