The all-new 2023 Kia Sportage is coming and we have big expectations from it. The new model already had a premiere in October and we presume that the sales will start soon. Fortunately, the new model is already on sale in Europe, so we can get out first impressions regarding ride quality, performance and overall design.
The new model has brought radical changes in many aspects. Of course, the first thing you’ll notice is the styling, which is a significant departure from the previous generation. Also, there is a couple of new hybrid powertrain options, as well as a completely new interior design, which looks very luxurious. The last but not least, the new generation is notably bigger than before, offering way more leg and cargo room than before.
At this point, we are still waiting for the launch schedule but from what we can see, that will happen already in the first half of 2022.
2023 Kia Sportage Redesign
The 2023 Kia Sportage redesign brings a whole lot of novelties. The most notable one is definitely the styling. Unlike the pretty rounded 4th generation, the 5th-generation Sportage brings radically different styling, which is much sharper and which brings a pretty polarizing front end. Of course, the first thing you’ll notice is that pair of futuristic boomerang-like headlights, as well as a massive 3D grille. The rest of the vehicle follows this layout and brings a pretty futuristic look to this compact crossover.
Mechanically, things aren’t that radical. Basically, the new 2023 Kia Sportage shares most of its parts with the already-presented 2022 Hyundai Tucson. The chassis will be the same, though we presume that the suspension setup will be slightly sportier compared to the new Tucson.
Finally, it’s important to mention that the new generation will be notably bigger than before. This particularly refers to the wheelbase, which will be good for 108.5 inches. As a result, the new model will offer way more space inside the cabin, especially in the second row and in the cargo area.
Just like the exterior, the interior of 2023 Kia Sportage also brings significant novelties, even radical. While the previous generation was characterized by a very conservative dashboard design, the new one is pretty much the opposite. It is highlighter by massive screens, which make the cabin look not just futuristic, but pretty luxurious as well. Of course, we are talking about a massive 12.3-inch touchscreen and an equally large digital instrument cluster. Furthermore, the whole cabin is wrapped with quality materials, while the center console comes in a piano black finish with a rotary gear shifter, push-button start and a few more controls.
As we’ve just mentioned, the longer wheelbase brings significant benefits in terms of cabin space. This is particularly notable in the second row, which does not offer 41.3 inches of legroom. Behind the second row, you will find nearly 40 cubic feet of cargo room, which is pretty impressive for a compact crossover.
The new cabin will also come fully loaded with tech features. We already mentioned the new 12.3-inch touchscreen, as well as the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. Of course, the 2023 Kia Sportage will also come standard with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration, touch-sensitive climate controls etc. Among upgrades, we expect to find goodies like Wi-Fi hotspot, wireless device charger, 360-degree camera system, and Harman Kardon sound system.
When it comes to safety, all models should come standard with goodies like forward collision warning, pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane keep assist, automatic high beams, parking sensors etc. The list of optional features should include blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, rear cross-traffic alert etc.
2023 Kia Sportage Engine
When it comes to powertrain, you may expect the same lineup as in the new Tucson. So, base models will come equipped with a 2.5-liter inline-four, which puts out around 191 horsepower. The engine will come in pair with the new 8-speed automatic transmission. Also, you may count on a couple of new hybrid powertrains, starting from a classic hybrid setup, which combines a 1.6-liter turbo-four and one electric motor, for a combined output of 225 horsepower.
A plug-in hybrid version will also come. It will also feature a 1.6-liter turbo-four engine, but with a more capable electric motor and a bigger battery. The max output should go around 265 horsepower, while we also count on the all-electric range of more than 30 miles.
Finally, we could see a performance version of the SUV, equipped with a turbo-four engine.
2023 Kia Sportage Release Date and Price
The all-new 2023 Kia Sportage already had its premiere and we presume it will hit the market in the first half of the next year. When it comes to the price, base models should go around 26.000 dollars. Key competitors should be models like VW Tiguan, Ford Escape etc.
