2023 Mercedes-Benz GLS Facelift: Rumors and Expectations

The current generation of the company’s full-size SUV has been around since 2019 and if we can trust the latest reports, the 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLS is about to receive a mid-cycle refresh. The test mule has already been spotted and from what we can hear, this update will be mostly about new styling details. Some sources also speculate about electrification, but the actual chances to see such a powertrain in this segment aren’t particularly big. Instead, the next year’s model will carry on with familiar engine options on the offer.

So, we have no doubt that the overall layout will remain the same, despite the updates. You may count on an SUV that offers a super-high level of luxury, which a lavish cabin and plenty of passenger and cargo space. Furthermore, the ride quality is excellent, while there is also a broad range of capable engine options on offer.

We believe that the updated 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLS could arrive in the second half of the next year.

The current generation has been around for a while and despite it still looks pretty fresh, it will get updates. Simply, the competition is getting tougher. The new Escalade is here, while the all-new Lexus LX is on the way. That’s why we are about to see a 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLS facelift. This update will be mostly about the styling and from what we can see, the new model will get most of the novelties at the front, where we expect to see a couple of subtle changes in areas like the grille, bumper etc.

Changes in other areas of the vehicle are also possible but they should all be pretty subtle. On the other hand, the mechanical aspect of the vehicle will certainly remain the same, which means that you may count on the same chassis and suspension setup, which ensures a composed and super-comfortable ride.

Interior

We don’t believe that the 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLS interior could change much. The current cabin already looks pretty impressive, as it offers excellent build quality, high-end materials and attractive aesthetics. Furthermore, there is an impressive amount of tech and convenience features, which all make this cabin look even more impressive.

The driving position is great, while the visibility is also pretty good in all directions. The front seats are massive and supportive, while the second row accommodates adults with ease. The third row is a little bit tighter but still can be very generous.

When it comes to the cargo area, you may count on 17.4 cubic feet of space with all of its seats up, up to 48.7 cubic feet behind the second row and 84.7 cubic feet in total. That’s a decent rating for the class.

Features

Of course, we will see a couple of additions to the list of standard and available equipment. Still, keep in mind that the current model already offers an impressive list of features, so we don’t expect to see too many novelties. For example, the current model already comes standard with goodies like a 12.3-inch touch screen, a touchpad controller, navigation, Bluetooth, eight USB ports, a 13-speaker Burmester audio system, satellite radio, HD Radio, an in-car communication system, wireless device charging, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto, as well as with things like a sunroof, quad-zone automatic climate control, remote start, and a parking damage detector.

Some of the options could become standard next year. The list of potential candidates is long and it includes goodies like five-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, MBUX interior assistant, a 7-inch MBUX tablet for the second row, a 26-speaker Burmester audio system, second-row wireless device charging, and a Wi-Fi hot spot.

2023 Mercedes-Benz GLS Engines

As we already mentioned, we don’t expect to see any changes under the hood, so the 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLS should continue with familiar engine options. So, base models will continue with a 3.0-liter inline-six, which puts out around 362 horsepower. This engine has enough power to satisfy most drivers and even offers pretty decent fuel economy. You may count on about 20 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway. The GLS 580 has been discontinued recently, so the next one on the offer is the AMG-badged version.

Of course, we are talking about the AMG GLS 63, which comes equipped with a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, which puts out around 600 horsepower. There is also a Maybach version called GLS 600, which uses the same engine but has a max power of 550 horses.

All engines come in pair with a 9-speed automatic transmission.

2023 Mercedes-Benz GLS Release Date and Price

We expect that the 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLS will hit the market sometime in the second half of 2022, with a starting price of around 78.000 dollars.
