2023 Subaru Forester Preview: What to Expect?

After the 2022 update, we presume that Subaru’s legendary compact SUV is about to carry on in the same way. Those who are familiar with the company’s typical production cycle know very well that the 2023 Subaru Forester, which will represent the fifth production year, will be the last model year of the current generation. Therefore, we don’t expect to see any notable change for the final production year.

So, we expect to see familiar design and features. This means that you may count on an SUV that’s spacious and comfortable, and comes with a well-designed and well-equipped cabin. Besides comfort, this SUV also offers strong off-road performance, thanks to the high ground clearance and standard all-wheel drive. On the other hand, the main complaint goes to the engine and transmission, as driving dynamics aren’t particularly great and CVT gearbox isn’t everyone’s cup of tea.

Considering that there are no bigger changes to come, we presume that the 2023 Subaru Forester release date will be scheduled for the last quarter of the year.

2023 Subaru Forester Design

As we’ve just mentioned, the 2023 Subaru Forester will represent the final production year of the current generation. Therefore, we don’t believe it could bring more important changes. Instead, we expect to see a familiar design, based on the company’s modular platform that underpins pretty much everything in the lineup. Of course, count on the styling updates that were introduced with the 2022 update.

The Forester is comfortable and easy to drive, while its famous AWD system ensures excellent stability in all weather conditions. Moreover, you may also count on solid off-road performance. Besides standard all-wheel drive, this SUV also offers 8.7 inches of ground clearance, which is more compared to most rivals. Furthermore, there is the recently introduced Wilderness trim, which adds off-road upgrades like higher ground clearance, forward-facing camera, all-terrain tires etc.

Interior

When it comes to interior design, things are the same. The 2023 Subaru Forester interior will continue in the same way, with the cabin that’s functional but also well-designed. The materials are nice, as well as the build quality, though the sound insulation could be a little bit better. On the other hand, we like the long list of tech and convenience features, which makes this cabin look even more upscale.

The cabin is also very spacious and comfortable. The front seats are comfortable and supportive, while the driving position is high, which ensures excellent visibility in all directions. Furthermore, the second row also offers plenty of space and accommodates adults with ease.

When it comes to the cargo area, you may count on about 28.9 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats and 74.2 cubic feet. Those are pretty impressive numbers for the class, especially the overall cargo volume.

Features

Since we are talking about the final production year, we expect to see no bigger changes in terms of standard and available equipment. Therefore, all models should come standard with goodies like automatic climate control, a 6.5-inch touch screen, a four-speaker stereo, satellite radio, HD Radio, USB ports, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. The list of upgrades should include things like an 8-inch touch screen, a six-speaker stereo, a nine-speaker Harman Kardon stereo, more USB ports, a Wi-Fi hot spot, and navigation, as well as a panoramic moonroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, and push-button start.

When it comes to safety, all models will come standard with goodies like a rearview camera, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, lane centering assist etc. Also, count on upgrades like driver drowsiness monitoring, blind-spot monitoring, lane change assist, rear cross traffic alert, reverse automatic emergency braking etc.

2023 Subaru Forester Engine

Under the hood, the 2023 Subaru Forester will continue with just one powertrain option on the offer. That would be a familiar 2.5-liter flat-four, which puts out around 182 horsepower. It’s not the most powerful engine in the class, so don’t expect much in terms of acceleration. Still, that doesn’t mean that the Forester isn’t a good daily commuter. Its CVT transmission works surprisingly well, while the whole setup feels pretty refined.

Furthermore, there is the matter of fuel economy. Although with standard all-wheel drive, the Forester offers pretty impressive fuel economy, which goes around 26 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway. That’s better compared to most 2WD compact SUVs on the market.

2023 Subaru Forester Release Date and Price

Since there are no significant changes to come, we expect that the 2023 Subaru Forester will hit the market sometime in the last quarter of the year. The base price should go around 26.500 dollars, while the key competitors will be models like Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, Nissan Rogue etc.
