Known both as Vitara and Grand Vitara (depending on the generation), Suzuki’s small SUV has been around for decades. It proved itself as an excellent choice for those who look for an affordable yet capable vehicle, which puts focus on mechanics, rather than on fancy interior materials and similar things. The current generation has been around since 2015, so it makes sense to expect changes in the near future. From what we know so far, the new generation is already in development and unofficial reports suggest its arrival already in the next year. Besides the standard version, we could also see a 3-row model, which would bring back that “Grand” in Vitara’s name. That model would come as the 2023 Suzuki Grand Vitara.
At this point, we are still quite limited in terms of information. Still, if we can trust rumors, the Grand Vitara will be exclusively offered in selected markets. This particularly refers to South East Asia, though we could see it in Australia as well.
2023 Suzuki Grand Vitara Design
As we’ve just mentioned, the current-generation Vitara has been around since 2015 and we expect to see a full redesign in the near future. This redesign will bring a lot of changes and it looks like we’ll be once again seeing two variants of the SUV. The standard Vitara would come with similar dimensions as the current model, while the 2023 Suzuki Grand Vitara would be notably bigger. For reference, the current model measures around 98.5 inches in wheelbase and 164.5 inches in total length. On the other hand, the previous-generation Vitara was good for about 103.9 inches. So, we presume that the new model would go a little bit over 105 inches between the axles.
Of course, we expect to see all kinds of new mechanics, including a lot of new technologies regarding electrification. The current model comes with a mild-hybrid powertrain only, and we expect that the new model could bring a lot more in this aspect.
When it comes to the exterior design, we’ve already speculated about the size. The overall body layout shouldn’t bring any surprise. We count on a typical 5-door SUV, while the styling shouldn’t bring any radical change. We expect to see some kind of an evolution of the current model, though it’s actually still early to talk about these things.
Interior
On the inside, we presume that the 2023 Suzuki Grand Vitara will continue in a similar way. This SUV has always been on a simple side in terms of cabin design, with a focus on functionality. Therefore, we expect to see a cabin that utilizes durable materials and doesn’t pay too much attention to detail and refinement. We presume that the recently-redesigned S-Cross could serve as an inspiration.
On the other hand, we expect a lot from the new model in terms of interior space and overall functionality. With more than 105 inches in wheelbase, this would become a typical compact crossover, comparable with models like Toyota RAV4. If we can trust rumors, this version will feature three rows of seats, which means that the main competitor would rather be Mitsubishi Outlander. The cargo area should be pretty generous as well.
2023 Suzuki Grand Vitara Engines
When it comes to the powertrain, we presume that the current powertrain options will remain. This particularly refers to the 1.4-liter turbo-four, which comes in a combination with a mild-hybrid setup. The engine is good for 129 horsepower, while the electric motor adds 13 horses more. That’s enough for decent performance, while fuel economy remains at a high level as well. On the other hand, we expect that the small 1.0-liter engine will remain reserved for the standard Vitara only.
On the other hand, we expect to see some additional form of electrification. This could be either a standard hybrid or a plug-in hybrid powertrain. The all-electric version is not expected at this point, at least not for the initial launch, though we won’t exclude the possibility to see it in the future.
