2023 Toyota Land Cruiser Preview, Specs, Features

There aren’t many models on the market that are as iconic as the Land Cruiser. Toyota’s legend has been around for decades and besides off-road performance, the recent generations were also praised for their luxury and convenience. The new model, which was introduced last year, is no exception. It brings a fantastic combination of luxury, off-road performance and reliability, something you will hardly find in any other place. Since we are talking about a very fresh, completely redesigned model, it’s hard to believe that the 2023 Toyota Land Cruiser, which will represent the second production year, could come with more important changes.

We count on the same design and features. This SUV offers excellent off-road performance and we also like that the new generation also comes with a pretty wide powertrain offer. Furthermore, the new Land Cruiser is luxurious and very comfortable, while the list of standard and available equipment is very long.

Since no bigger changes are about to come, we believe that the 2023 Toyota Land Cruiser will hit the market sometime late in the year.

2023 Toyota Land Cruiser Design

As we’ve just mentioned, the 2023 Toyota Land Cruiser will represent the second production year of the current generation. Considering all the novelties that were introduced last year, it’s pretty much for sure that this will be a carryover model. We are about to see the same design, now based on Toyota’s TNGA-F platform, the same one that’s used for Tundra, Lexus LX etc. Compared to the previous model, the new one is significantly lighter and features a lower center of gravity, which provides a much better driving experience on the road.

The off-road performance is impressive. The company kept the same dimensions from the previous generation, in order to retain the same approach and departure angles. You may count on four-wheel drive, center locking differential, hill descent control, and selectable drive modes on the list of standard equipment. The GR Sport version brings even more off-road features, such as upgraded suspension, front and rear locking differentials, additional off-road modes etc.

Interior

On the inside, the 2023 Toyota Land Cruiser will also continue in the same way. The recent redesign brought a completely new layout, which looks great from every aspect. The dashboard looks attractive and comes with a full load of tech features. Furthermore, the materials are super fine, while the build quality seems excellent.

2023 Toyota Land Cruiser Interior

On the other hand, the relatively modest wheelbase causes relatively modest interior space. While the first two rows are very spacious and comfortable, the third row is very tight, especially when compared with models like Infiniti QX80 and Nissan Patrol. The same is with the cargo area, which is among the smallest in the segment.

Features

Novelties in this aspect are always possible but we believe that the 2023 Toyota Land Cruiser won’t change much. Most of the things should remain the same as in the current model, which is already pretty generous with standard equipment. It comes standard with goodies like a 12.3-infotainment screen, a 7-inch instrument cluster digital screen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 10-speaker audio system, 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, 8-way power-adjustable passenger seat, heated and ventilated front seats, quad-zone climate control, wireless charging, head-up display.

As you can see, the list of standard equipment is very long, so there isn’t much left for the list of options. You can get no more than a couple of upgrades, such as a sunroof, memory seats, heated and ventilated second-row seats, a center cool box, power tailgate.

2023 Toyota Land Cruiser Engines

The new generation brought significant changes under the hood. V8 units were replaced with new engines, with a six-cylinder. First of all, the good-old 5.7-liter V8 is not available anymore. Instead, the company offers the new 3.4-liter twin-turbo V6, which puts out 409 horsepower, which is more than enough for strong performances.

Also, there is the new 3.3-liter V6 turbodiesel, which is good for about 304 horsepower and 700Nm of torque. Both engines come coupled with the new 10-speed automatic transmission.

In some parts of the world, Toyota also kept the old 4.0-liter V6 on the offer, with around 270 horsepower. That engine comes in pair with an old 6-speed automatic.

Finally, some sources suggest that the company could offer a turbo-four as a base engine in certain markets. That would be the new 2.4-liter unit with around 275 horsepower. We are not sure about that but we expect that things are about to become clear in the next few months when we hear something from the officials on this matter.

No bigger changes mean no early launch. Therefore, the 2023 Toyota Land Cruiser should arrive sometime in the last quarter of the year. The price varies from market to market. For example, the Australian model starts at around AU$128.000, while the starting price in the Middle East goes around AED 230.000.
