2023 Volvo XC90 Redesign: What We Know So Far

Believe it or not, the current generation of Volvo’s flagship SUV has been around since 2014. Yes, it looks much younger, thanks to the attractive styling and well-designed interior. However, it needs updates and that’s why the 2023 Volvo XC90 will come completely redesigned. At this point, we know some of the details, but most things are still kept a secret. From what we know so far, the new model will hit the market already in the second half of next year, and it should bring some pretty interesting design solutions.

A big part of this redesign will be electrification. The new generation will offer a variety of powertrain options, including an all-electric version. Also, the new generation will bring lots of other interesting novelties. Among them, there is also a new exterior design, which will introduce a new body style that combines crossover and wagon design solutions.

The 2023 Volvo XC90 is about to hit the market sometime in the second half of 2022, we believe.

2023 Volvo XC90 Redesign

As we’ve just mentioned, the 2023 Volvo XC90 redesign is about to bring a lot of novelties. However, some things won’t be all-new. For example, there is the platform. The new model will ride on an updated version of the company’s well-known SPA platform, which will underpin pretty much a complete lineup. The updates will bring all kinds of novelties, starting from the ability to accommodate larger batteries and an all-electric setup.

Also, the new model should bring notable improvements in terms of ride quality, which is currently one of the weakest points. Simply, the current generation doesn’t offer particularly athletic handling, while the ride isn’t particularly comfortable either. That will change with the new model and we are eagerly waiting to see how things will work in the new model.

Exterior

Naturally, the upcoming redesign will bring a completely new exterior design as well. From what we know so far, the new 2023 Volvo XC90 will take heavy inspiration from the Concept Recharge, which was presented earlier this year. This refers not just to aesthetics, which look amazing, but also to the fact that the new XC90 will feature a pretty interesting body layout. Instead of a classic SUV shape, its body will be a mix of SUV and wagon body styles. Such an approach should make the car look more attractive and also improve things like ride quality, efficiency etc. More details will be known once we see 2023 Volvo XC90 spy shots.

In terms of size, we don’t expect significant changes. The current model already features pretty respectable dimensions for the class. However, the new body style should make things more practical, especially in terms of the cargo area. We will get on this in a moment.

Interior

Of course, the interior design will be all-new too. Although we don’t expect to look as futuristic as in the concept version, we have no doubt that the Swedish manufacturer will do a great job. Simply, all Volvo cars feature great interior designs, which combine simplistic aesthetics with high-quality materials and excellent build quality. The 2023 Volvo XC90 will be no exception and we also count on a long list of standard equipment, including lots of tech features. We also expect that the new XC90 will offer the company’s new autonomous driving system.

Naturally, we expect the new cabin to be practical and comfortable. Three rows of seats will be standard and all three should be able to accommodate adults easily. Furthermore, we also count on a generous cargo area.

2023 Volvo XC90 Engines

When it comes to powertrain, we expect that the 2023 Volvo XC90 will offer both internal-combustion units and electrified setups. First of all, we count on a couple of gasoline options, probably with the updated variant of the current turbo-four engine. Diesel versions are possible in certain markets as well.

When it comes to electrification, we expect that the Swedish manufacturer will develop a new plug-in hybrid system, more refined and more efficient than the current one. Finally, we count on the all-electric version. Details about this particular model are yet to come but from what we know so far, the 2023 Volvo XC90 Recharge will be able to make over 300 miles on a single charge.
