2024 BMW X5 Is Getting Mid-Cycle Refresh

The current generation of BMW’s popular mid-size SUV has been around for a while. It was introduced in 2019 and, surprisingly, hasn’t received any major updates yet. However, this will change with the 2024 BMW X5, which is about to get a mid-cycle refresh. The Bavarian carmaker prepares all kinds of updates, which will make this model competitive in the following years. We are talking about styling changes, new powertrain options, and more.

Of course, the most notable will be the new styling, which will bring a more aggressive look. The changes will happen on the inside as well, in the form of a revised dashboard and new tech features. Finally, expect all kinds of powertrain upgrades. The current engines will get more power, while we also expect to see a new plug-in hybrid setup.

We expect that the 2024 BMW X5 will be presented in February, though the North American version won’t go on sale so fast.

2024 BMW X5 Design

As we’ve just mentioned, this will be a typical mid-cycle refresh, with updates in different aspects. Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is styling. The test mule has already been spotted on the road and it wears camouflage on both ends. There’s no doubt that most changes will happen at the front, where we expect to see a lot of inspiration taken from the recently-updated X7. We presume that the headlights will feature a similar design, while the grille should offer a bolder and more prominent appearance compared to the current model. The rear end should also come with a couple of modifications, while we also count on typical mid-cycle updates, such as new wheels, new color options, etc.

On the other hand, we don’t expect bigger changes regarding mechanics. We expect to see the same chassis and suspension setup, which offer a great driving experience and balances between athleticism and comfort in such a nice fashion.

Interior

This mid-cycle refresh will also bring notable interior updates. As you may presume, the biggest 2024 BMW X5 interior changes will be those in terms of tech features. We are about to see the same design approach we’ve seen in the X7, with a new panel that integrates infotainment and instrument cluster screens. The former should be good for 14.9 inches, while the latter should measure 12.3 inches diagonally. We also expect to see updates regarding new tech features, materials, color schemes, etc.

On the other hand, the overall cabin layout won’t change much. The next year’s model will continue with the same configuration, which includes two rows of seats and the capacity to accommodate five passengers. Both rows are generous with space and accommodate adults with ease. The cargo area offers around 33.7 cubic feet of room behind the second row and 72.3 cubic feet of the total cargo volume.

Features

Naturally, this update will bring more standard equipment too. At this point, we are sure about the new screens, but a few more goodies might be added as well. Still, keep in mind that the current model is already equipped very well. It comes standard with goodies like wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, navigation, Bluetooth, HD Radio, satellite radio, a 10-speaker audio system, five USB ports, dual-zone automatic climate control, a panoramic moonroof, keyless entry, push-button start and ambient LED interior lighting.

We presume that some of the current options might become standards. Some of the things that come to mind are Wi-Fi hot spot, wireless device charging, a 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, a 20-speaker Bowers and Wilkins audio system, hand-gesture recognition, quad-zone automatic climate control, and remote start.

2024 BMW X5 Engines

Big upgrades are expected under the hood as well. We expect that the 2024 BMW X5 will follow the path of the recently updated X7, so the base 3.0-liter turbo inline-six should get more power. The max output should go up to 375 horsepower. Also, the M50i should be renamed to M60i. It will continue with the same 4.4-liter twin-turbo but also get an additional 48-volt hybrid system. The output should remain the same, around 523 horsepower. Also, there is the M version, equipped with a more powerful variant of this engine, with 600 horsepower.

Finally, there is the hybrid version, which will get a new setup. The new model will be called the xDrive50e and it will get a more capable electric motor and a larger 20.9-kWh battery pack. The exact numbers are still unavailable but some sources estimate a max output of 480 horsepower and a max all-electric range of 60 miles.

2024 BMW X5 Release Date and Price

We expect that the 2024 BMW X5 will hit the market sometime this summer, with a starting price of around 63.000 dollars.
