This Cadillac’s compact crossover has been around since 2016 but it never managed to make impressive sales numbers. That’s why it will be discontinued from the U.S. market soon. The new generation will be offered in China only, while the North American model will remain in production for another year. That one will come as the 2024 Cadillac XT5 and it won’t feature more important changes compared to the current model year.
As the last model year of the generation, the next year’s XT5 will carry on in a familiar way, with familiar pros and cons. Although older than most competitors, it still has a lot of good things to offer, starting from the spacious cabin, long list of standard equipment, good fuel economy etc. On the other hand, the biggest complaints go to the subpar interior quality, lack of athleticism and outdated styling.
Since it will come without more important updates, the 2024 Cadillac XT5 should hit the market sometime in the last quarter of the year.
2024 Cadillac XT5 Design
So, the 2024 Cadillac XT5 will represent the final production year of the generation and it will be the last time to see it offered in North America. That’s why we don’t expect to see any particular changes. The overall layout will remain the same, based on the good-old C1 platform. This architecture offers a typical FF layout, with a transversally-mounted engine and front-wheel drive, while the AWD system is optional. With 112.5 inches wheelbase, this is one of the biggest compact luxury crossovers on the market.
The styling won’t bring any particular changes either. We expect to see a familiar design, which doesn’t follow the brand’s latest aesthetical approach, but still looks decent. Still, many rivals are younger and look way more modern.
Interior
The interior of this SUV is a mixed bag. On one hand, we don’t find the overall quality particularly impressive. Although there is nothing to complain about, the fact is that most rivals look more upscale, especially German competitors like Mercedes-Benz GLC and BMW X3. The aesthetics aren’t the freshest, while many areas feature materials you wouldn’t expect to see in a premium SUV.
On the other hand, the model’s long wheelbase provides plenty of passenger room. Both rows of seats are generous with space and accommodate adults with ease. Also, the front seats are shaped pretty well and quite supportive, and it’s also pretty easy to find a good driving position. The outward visibility is good, while there is nothing to complain about ergonomics either.
The cargo area offers around 30 cubic feet behind the second row and 63 cubic feet of the total cargo volume, which is above average for the segment.
Features
As this is going to be the final production year, we won’t expect to see bigger changes regarding the standard and available equipment. Therefore, abase models should come standard with goodies like an 8-inch touch screen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, Bluetooth, four USB ports, HD Radio, satellite radio, an eight-speaker stereo, a Wi-Fi hot spot, proximity keyless entry, push-button start, remote start and dual-zone automatic climate control.
Among available upgrades, expect to find things like an 8-inch digital gauge cluster, navigation, wireless device charging, a 14-speaker stereo, tri-zone automatic climate control, ambient lighting and a panoramic sunroof.
When it comes to safety and driver-assistance features, the base versions will come equipped with a rearview camera, front and rear parking sensors, driver-attention monitoring, forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, automatic high beams, rear-seat alert, teen driver etc.
2024 Cadillac XT5 Engines
You may expect to see two familiar powertrain options on offer for the next year. Base models will continue with a 2.0-liter turbo-four, which puts out around 235 horsepower, which offers decent performance in a combination with very good fuel economy. You may count on up to 22 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway, which is above average for a compact luxury SUV.
The optional V6 is good for 310 horsepower and offers notably better driving dynamics. It is also notably thirstier, with an average fuel economy that goes up to 19 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway.
