According to the latest reports, the next generation of Ford’s full-size SUV will arrive late in the next year, as the 2025 model. That clearly indicates that the 2024 Ford Expedition Max will represent the final production year of the current generation, which has been around since 2018. It also receive a major refresh two years ago, so we are pretty sure there will be no significant changes for the next year. Instead, we expect to see a familiar design, with familiar specs and features.
All this means that you may count on an SUV that still has a lot of things to offer. We like its spacious cabin very much, along with a nice interior that comes equipped with lots of standard and available equipment. Furthermore, there is the well-known twin-turbo V6, which offers a good balance between performance and efficiency, making the Expedition Max one of the best choices in the class.
As there are no significant changes to come, we presume that the 2024 Ford Expedition Max could arrive sometime in the last quarter of the year.
2024 Ford Expedition Max Design
So, the 2024 Ford Expedition Max will most likely be the final production year of the current generation. Therefore, we don’t expect to see any bigger change. We expect to see a familiar design, which has been around since 2018 and which was updated for the 2022 model year. That update brought notable styling changes and we presume that the next year’s model will continue with the same appearance. Of course, we won’t exclude the possibility to see minor updates, such as new color options or maybe a new appearance package or some kind of special edition.
On the other hand, the mechanical aspect of the vehicle definitely won’t change. We are about to see the same chassis setup. Thanks to the standard independent multi-link rear suspension, the ride is smooth and comfortable, though the handling doesn’t seem particularly engaging.
The key thing about the 2024 Ford Expedition Max will remain its interior. Compared to the standard Expedition, this version features 131.6 inches in wheelbase, which significantly increased interior space. As a result, all three rows accommodate adults with ease. The first two rows offer way over 40 inches of legroom, while the third row is also good for a very respectable 36.1 inches. On the other hand, the cargo area is less generous compared to rivals like GMC Yukon XL and Chevy Suburban. You may count on about 36 cubic feet of room behind the third row, up to 79.6 cubic feet behind the second row, and 121.5 cubic feet in total. For comparison, the aforementioned models offer way over 140 cubic feet of the total cargo volume.
On the other hand, the dashboard and overall interior design are pretty much the same as in the standard Expedition. This SUV features an attractive interior design and also utilizes high-quality materials. Moreover, there is also a pretty generous offer of standard and available tech and convenience features and we really don’t have any complaint in this aspect.
As for the standard and available equipment, we don’t expect to see any significant changes. Most things should remain the same or very similar to the current model. So, base versions would come standard with goodies like a 12-inch touch screen, a Wi-Fi hotspot, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a six-speaker stereo, four USB ports, voice recognition, an 8-inch digital instrument cluster display, tri-zone automatic climate control and a universal garage door opener.
Among options, we expect to find goodies like a 15.5-inch touch screen, a 12- or 22-speaker Bang & Olufsen stereo, satellite radio, a dual-screen rear-seat entertainment system, two third-row USB ports, navigation, wireless device charging, HD Radio, a 12.4-inch fully digital instrument cluster, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, proximity keyless entry, a panoramic roof, a household-style power outlet, remote start and ambient interior lighting.
2024 Ford Expedition Max Engines
As for the powertrain, the 2024 Ford Expedition Max will continue with the well-known 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6, which comes in three output variants. Base versions are good for about 380 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque, while higher trim levels come with more capable variants, with 400 or 440 horsepower. All models come equipped with a 10-speed automatic transmission, which sends power either to the rear or four wheels, depending on the configuration.
When it comes to fuel economy, the most efficient versions return to up to 17 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway.
