2024 Jeep Wrangler Magneto Is Almost Production-Ready

Today’s automotive industry is streaming toward inevitable electrification and some things that looked impossible just a few years ago now seem quite normal. One of them is the fact that everyone is eagerly waiting to see an all-electric Wrangler. The company already presented a plug-in hybrid version of the popular off-roader and it’s just a matter of time before we see the EV Wrangler. So far, the company presented two concept versions, both codenamed Magneto. For that reason, many believe that the production version could arrive in about a year or two, such as the 2024 Jeep Wrangler Magneto.

Both concept versions brought a similar design approach, with some pretty interesting design solutions. Considering that we are talking about an off-road vehicle, no one expected to see design solutions from a typical passenger car but the company went much further than we could imagine. For that reason, it’s hard to say if the production version is about to follow the concept’s path or if we are about to see some more conventional technical solutions.

As we already mentioned, the Jeep Wrangler Magneto concept came with some pretty unusual design solutions, not just by EV standards, but also by Wrangler’s typical design philosophy. This particularly refers to the drivetrain.

The first concept came with a front-mounted, custom-made electric motor with 285 horsepower. That wouldn’t be so unusual if it didn’t come with a 6-speed manual transmission, borrowed from the Charger Hellcat. The second concept also came with a front-mounted engine but significantly more power. That version is rated at 625 horsepower and 850 pound-feet of torque and, once again, it is coupled with a 6-speed manual transmission.

Another interesting thing about the 2024 Jeep Wrangler Magneto is the battery placement. Due to the specific BoF layout, there are actually four battery packs, positioned in different areas of the chassis, with a total capacity of 70 kWh.

At this point, it’s hard to tell if the production version is about to feature a similar setup but we think it will rather come with something more conventional, such as a single- or two-speed automatic transmission. A bigger battery is definitely expected.

2024 Jeep Wrangler Magneto Design

For the sake of concept versions, designers started with the smaller, two-door version of the SUV. However, we saw significant modifications, starting from the significant 12-inch wheelbase increase. That provided more room for the batteries, although we didn’t see much benefit in terms of the passenger space. The concept comes also came with significant visual upgrades, with lots of unique details. Some of the highlights are things like lightweight bumpers, carbon-fiber wheel flares, Surf Blue paint, a custom carbon-fiber B-pillar, a custom bikini top, and a carbon-fiber hood with blue-tinted, transparent hood etc.

Considering that we are talking about one of the most iconic off-roaders of all time, it’s no wonder that the Magneto concept came equipped with a full load of off-road features. Some of the things worth mentioning are off-road suspension, a custom 3-inch lift kit, 40-inch off-road tires mounted on 20-inch wheels, Dynatrac 60 Pro-Rock front axle and a massive Pro-Rock Dynatrac 80 rear axle with a 5.38 ratio and lockers for both axles, custom driveshaft.

In terms of off-road features, we would expect nothing less from the production version. On the other hand, we presume that the overall design would be more practical, so a four-door version feels more likely than the short-wheelbase variant.

Interior

On the inside, the concept version came with lots of unique details, particularly in terms of the dashboard design, which came with lots of exclusive aesthetical details, a unique color scheme with blue accents etc. We presume that the production version would also be different compared to the ICE version but we don’t expect to see anything radical. Still, controls and gauges that are typical for electric vehicles are something we definitely expect to see.

The aspect where we definitely expect a significantly different layout than the concept is seating configuration. Despite the longer wheelbase, it features just a single row of seats, which is something we don’t expect in the production version. Two rows are a certain thing, while we also think that the four-door layout feels much more appropriate for an electric Wrangler.

2024 Jeep Wrangler Magneto Release Date and Price

We presume that the all-electric Wrangler could arrive already by the end of 2023, though 2024 sounds more realistic. When it comes to price, sources like Car and Driver suggest a starting price of around 50.000 dollars.
