Although the current generation of Kia’s mid-size crossover has been around for less than two years, the Korean manufacturer already prepares updates. According to the latest reports, the 2024 Kia Sorento is about to receive a mid-cycle update and the test mule has already been spotted on the road. It still wears heavy camouflage, which clearly indicates that the focus of this update will be on visual changes. Still, we won’t be surprised to see some interesting novelties regarding tech and convenience features.
On the other hand, the overall layout shouldn’t change. We expect to see a familiar layout, which has a lot of great things to offer. We like Sorento’s high-quality interior, as well as a pretty broad range of powertrain options, which includes some pretty efficient units.
Considering the updates, we presume that the 2024 Kia Sorento will hit the market a little bit earlier than usual, though still within the second half of 2023.
2024 Kia Sorento Design
As we’ve just mentioned, the 2024 Kia Sorento is about to receive a mid-cycle update. At this point, we don’t know the details, but the test model has been spotted on the road. It is still under a heavy cover, so we can’t talk about details. Still, we have no doubt that most of the changes will be visual. Naturally, most of them should be at the front, where we expect to see novelties in various areas, particularly in terms of the front fascia, grille, headlights etc. The rear end might come with some changes as well, such as new taillights, exhaust pipes etc.
On the other hand, the mechanical aspect of the vehicle shouldn’t change. This SUV is still pretty fresh and offers competitive characteristics regarding ride quality. It is comfortable and easy to drive, while the level of athleticism is also pretty decent.
Interior
Although some interior updates are also possible, we are pretty sure that most things will remain the same. Simply, this cabin already looks pretty impressive and it is definitely one of Sorento’s strongest points. Everything looks pretty luxurious and stylish, while the build quality is pretty impressive. Even though we are talking about a typical mainstream product, the materials and attention to detail tell that this SUV can compete with a lot of models from the so-called premium segment.
Besides a stylish and well-built cabin, Sorento also offers a decent amount of space. As we are talking about one of the smallest mid-size SUVs on the market, it’s hard to expect plenty of space in the third row. On the other hand, the first and the second rows are pretty spacious and very comfortable.
The cargo area offers around 12.6 cubic feet behind the third row, 45 cubic feet behind the second and 75.5 cubic feet of the total volume.
Features
There’s no doubt that the next year’s update will bring novelties in terms of standard and available equipment. However, if we consider that the current model already stands pretty well in this aspect, we are pretty sure that these changes won’t be so significant.
For reference, the current model comes standard with goodies like dual-zone climate control, push-button start, remote start, an 8-inch touch screen, a six-speaker stereo, satellite radio, HD Radio, USB ports, Bluetooth, and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Among upgrades, you can get goodies like a panoramic sunroof, wireless device charging and a rear-seat entertainment system.
The same thing is with safety features, as the current model already comes standard with things like a rearview camera, rear parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, traffic sign recognition, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking etc.
2024 Kia Sorento Engines
The engine lineup will certainly remain the same. So, base models will continue with a familiar 2.5-liter inline-four, which puts out around 191 horsepower. While that’s plenty enough for daily commuting, we would rather go for the optional turbo-four, which is good for 281 horsepower and delivers pretty impressive driving dynamics.
There are also two hybrid versions on offer. The classic hybrid comes with a system based on a 1.6-liter turbo-four engine and offers a total output of 226 horsepower. On the other hand, the plug-in hybrid comes with a bigger battery and more powerful electric motor, so the combined power goes up to 261 horsepower. This version also offers around 30 miles f the all-electric range.
2024 Kia Sorento Release Date and Price
We presume that the 2024 Kia Sorento will hit the market sometime in the second half of 2023. We don’t expect a significant price increase compared to the current model, which starts at around 31.000 dollars. The competition is numerous, but we presume that models like Subaru Ascent, GMC Acadia and VW Atlas will remain some of the key rivals.
