The current generation of Defender has been around for about three years but even today, we are still impressed with its fantastic balance of off-road performance and on-road driving manners. In this aspect, no other SUV comes even close but it looks like things could become even better with the next year’s model, which is about to introduce a new high-performance version. That model is expected to arrive as the 2024 Land Rover Defender SVX and it should bring several upgrades.
One of the key upgrades will be the new engine, a twin-turbocharged V8. However, the power increase won’t be the only upgrade. We also expect to further mechanical upgrades, which will make this particular version even more capable than the standard model. Naturally, some visual enhancements are possible too, and they would accentuate the model’s hard-core nature.

Of course, the biggest upgrade in this case would be under the hood. We presume that the 2024 Land Rover Defender SVX would come with BMW’s 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8, the same that powers the new Range Rover Sport, which puts out 523 horsepower. Although that’s a minimal increase over the company’s 518-hp supercharged V8, this engine offers notable improvement in terms of driving dynamics and significantly more torque in the lower rev range.
The engine would come paired with a familiar 8-speed automatic transmission.
On the other hand, the rest of the lineup would continue in the same way. Base models would continue to use a 2.0-liter turbo-four with 296 horsepower, while mid-range options would come with six cylinders, with a 3.0-liter engine that is backed with a mild-hybrid system and puts out 395 horsepower. Finally, there is the aforementioned 5.0-liter Supercharged V8 with 518 horsepower.
All these units also come in pair with 8-speed automatic transmission.
2024 Land Rover Defender SVX Design
When it comes to the overall design, the 2024 Land Rover Defender SVX wouldn’t be much different compared to the standard version. However, we would expect to see further upgrades, especially in terms of off-road features. The test mule has been spotted and we can see that it wears bigger off-road tires, while we can also see things like widened wheel arches, raised suspension, and mudflaps.
All this should come combined with Defender’s familiar features. We expect that the list of standard equipment will include air suspension, hill descent control, a two-speed transfer case, Terrain Response system, an electronic active differential, low-speed off-road cruise control etc.
Interior
If we can trust rumors, the new version probably won’t be offered in the short-wheelbase 90 models. This means that all versions will come with four doors and sufficient passenger space. This cabin offers plenty of room in both rows and accommodates adults with ease, while the cargo area is also pretty generous.
The cabin also looks quite stylish. Of course, it’s rugged but that ruggedness is combined with some elegant design solutions and really nice materials, which also feel durable and sturdy. Furthermore, there is a generous offer of tech and convenience features, which makes everything feel even more upscale. The driving position is high and ensures excellent visibility in all directions.

Considering that this will probably be the most expensive variant of the SUV, we have no doubt that the list of standard equipment will be very long. So, the list of standard features will certainly include goodies like an 11.4-inch touch screen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, wireless device charging, a six-speaker stereo, satellite radio, HD Radio, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a universal garage door opener and proximity keyless entry. Furthermore, the list of standard equipment could also include goodies like a center console refrigerator, tri-zone automatic climate control, cabin air ionization, an Activity Key, a household-style power outlet, ambient interior lighting, a 10-speaker Meridian stereo, a Wi-Fi hot spot, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14-speaker Meridian surround-sound stereo.
When it comes to safety, things like forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, surround-view camera, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring, traffic sign recognition and rain-sensing wipers will certainly be on the list of standard equipment. Additionally, we could see goodies like adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, rearview camera, etc.
