2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class: Preview, Changes, Release Date

The current generation of this mid-size luxury crossover has been around since 2020 and the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class will represent the fifth production year. Therefore, it’s no wonder that the German manufacturer is preparing a facelift. From what we can see, changes will come in various aspects and most of them will be subtle, which is typical for this brand. The focus will be on aesthetics, although we are about to see some updates on the inside as well. On the other hand, the engine lineup will probably remain the same.

All in all, the changes will make this SUV more appealing, but the overall layout will remain the same. The 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class will continue to deliver familiar characteristics, starting from the smooth ride, super luxurious interior, capable powertrain options etc. Therefore, we don’t expect to see significant price changes, while the launch date should be scheduled for the second half of 2023.

2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class Design

Considering that we are talking about a mid-cycle update, it’s quite obvious that the focus of this refresh will be on styling. We expect to see some visual updates and the test mule has already been spotted on the road. It wears a pretty small amount of camouflage, which clearly indicates subtle changes. That particularly refers to areas around headlights, front fascia etc. Naturally, we also expect to see typical mid-cycle updates, such as new wheels, color options etc.

On the other hand, the mechanical aspect of the vehicle should remain the same. Simply, the current model is already impressive in this aspect, especially when it comes to ride quality, which is incredibly smooth and comfortable. At the same time, you may count on a pretty decent level of athleticism. Not many SUVs offer such a combination in today’s market.

Interior

A few changes to the inside are expected as well. This particularly refers to more features. However, the latest reports also suggest that we are about to see a new steering wheel. The infotainment system is about to get updated too, though the current 12.3-inch screen is likely to remain unchanged. Furthermore, we presume this update could bring novelties regarding new color schemes, new materials etc.

On the other hand, the overall cabin layout will remain the same. Standard models will continue with two rows of seats, which are both very spacious and comfortable, with plenty of room to accommodate adults with ease. On the other hand, the optional third row isn’t that spacious. Moreover, it’s actually pretty tight and would work for kids only.

The cargo area offers around 33.3 cubic feet of cargo space behind its rear seats and 74.9 cubic feet of the total volume, which puts this SUV among class leaders.

Features

Of course, this update should also bring novelties in terms of features. We presume that the list of standard equipment would become longer, though we don’t expect significant upgrades, as the current model already stands incredibly well in this aspect. It comes standard with goodies like a 12.3-inch touch screen, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, navigation, ”Hey Mercedes” virtual assistant, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, HD Radio, satellite radio, wireless device charging, Bluetooth, five USB ports, keyless entry, push-button start, dual-zone automatic climate control, a sunroof, and ambient lighting.

We presume that some of the currently available features could become standard. That may refer to things like 13- and 25-speaker Burmester sound systems, two additional USB ports, power soft-closing doors, four-zone automatic climate control, a cabin air fragrance system, a panoramic sunroof, and rear sunshades.

2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class Engines

We don’t expect changes under the hood. This aspect should remain the same, which means that base models would continue with a 2.0-liter turbo-four, which puts out around 255 horsepower. That’s enough to ensure decent driving dynamics and should satisfy most drivers. However, we would always go for the optional, super-smooth 3.0-liter inline-six, which puts out around 362 horsepower and offers notably better performance. The same engine is available in a variant with both turbocharger and supercharger, where the max output goes up to 429 horses.

Finally, there is the company’s well-known 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, which puts out around 483 horsepower. With this engine, the GLE needs just 5.0 seconds to hit 60. All engines come in pair with a 9-speed automatic transmission.

When it comes to fuel economy, the base turbo-four returns around 19 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway, which is about average for the segment. The inline-six is good for about 21 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway. On the other hand, the V8 is notably thirstier and returns around 17 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway.

2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class Release Date and Price

We expect that the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class will hit the market sometime in the second half of 2023, with a starting price of around 56.000 dollars. The competition will remain the same, with models like Lexus RX, BMW X5, Audi Q7 etc.
