2024 Nissan Armada: Inevitable Twin-Turbo V6 Switch

There aren’t many body-on-frame SUVs left on the market these days, especially not with large-displacement V8 engines. The Armada is one of them but it looks like we could see some updates for the next year. Namely, various reports, including Motor1, suggest that the next year’s model is about to get a new, turbo V6 engine. The officials are still quiet but if we consider the similar rumors about the internationally-offered Patrol, the chances to see this scenario happens are quite good. The 2024 Nissan Armada would get a new engine, but we don’t expect a full redesign, as some sources suggest.

Therefore, the overall layout would remain the same. The current model has been updated a few years ago and it still looks fresh enough to compete with younger rivals, including the recently redesigned Sequoia. Still, smaller-scale updates are always welcome, especially when it comes to the new standard and available features.

In any case, we don’t expect that the 2024 Nissan Armada could arrive before the last quarter of the year.

2024 Nissan Armada Is Getting New Engine!?

As we’ve just mentioned, the 2024 Nissan Armada could get a significant update under the hood. Although capable and very sonic, the current V8 is also thirsty. After the recent redesign of Sequoia, the Armada has remained one of the rare V8-powered full-size SUVs, along with Chevy Tahoe. Well, this is going to change soon, according to the reports. The 5.6-liter with 400hp will be replaced and we expect that the new engine will feature six cylinders and two turbochargers.

That could be a 3.5-liter V6, or maybe a turbocharged version of the new 3.8-liter engine, which debuted in the Frontier a few years ago. In any case, we expect competitive power figures, in a combination with good fuel efficiency. More than 400 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque is something we would expect to see from the new engine.

Some sources even suggest a full redesign but we think the current model still has a few good years before it gets a complete overhaul. Simply, the 2021 refresh brought significant updates, especially in terms of styling and that’s the main reason why presume that the Japanese manufacturer could do the same thing it did with the Frontier. In other words, we would see the new powertrain first, and the full redesign a few years after.

So, what we expect to see from the 2024 Nissan Armada is a familiar design, which received a completely new styling a few years ago. The SUV looks great and also offers a pretty engaging driving experience for the class, combining comfort, handling and off-road potential in a nice way. The next year’s model could bring things like new color options but anything more than that would be a surprise.

Interior

The same thing is with the interior design, which has a lot of great things to offer, despite that the cabin hasn’t essentially changed for a long time. You can still notice a lot of design solutions that belong to the previous era of the automotive industry, especially on the dashboard. On the other hand, the selection of materials and overall build quality is impressive, pretty much on par with many premium SUVs. Finally, the recent refresh brought a new infotainment system and redesigned center stack, which makes this cabin look a little bit more contemporary.

As for the passenger space, this is a three-row SUV, which accommodates up to 8 passengers. It comes with a couple of pretty spacious rows of seats, while the third row is also quite functional, even though some rivals like the aforementioned Chevy Tahoe are more generous. As for the cargo area, the Armada offers 16.5 cubic feet of room behind the third row, 49.9 cubic feet with the third row folded and 92.6 cubic feet in total.

Features

We expect most things to remain the same as in the 2023 model. So, base versions should come equipped with goodies like a 12.3-inch touch screen, wireless Apple CarPlay, wired Android Auto, navigation, satellite radio, HD Radio, a Wi-Fi hot spot, four USB ports, a four-speaker audio system and Bluetooth, as well as a 7-inch driver information display, dual-zone automatic climate control and proximity keyless entry.

Among upgrades, we expect to see things like Amazon Alexa, wireless device charging, a dual-screen second-row entertainment system, an additional USB port, a six-speaker audio system and a 13-speaker Bose audio system, remote start, a 120-volt household-style power outlet, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a universal garage door opener and a moonroof.

2024 Nissan Armada Release Date and Price

We expect that the 2024 Nissan Armada will arrive sometime in the last quarter of the year, with a starting price of around 52.000 dollars.
