It will bring a lot of novelties, so we have decided to make our top 10 list of the most interesting redesigned and new SUV models coming in 2024.
The list will include a variety of brand-new models. Most of them will be all-electric, coming from major carmakers, such as Toyota, General Motors, Honda etc. Also, there is a range of redesigned models that are coming, which also tend to adapt to the current trends of electrification. Finally, some enthusiasts are eagerly waiting for the next generation of traditional body-on-frame SUVs, such as the next-generation Toyota 4Runner, which is certainly one of the most anticipated models for the next year.
2024 Toyota bZ5X
Toyota has just started electrification with the bZ4X compact SUV and now, we are waiting for several more to come in the near future. The 2024 Toyota bZ5X will be among the first ones to come and, as you may presume, it will be slightly bigger than the recently-introduced compact crossover.
At this point, there aren’t many details about this model, but we presume it will compete in the mid-size segment, with three rows of seats and proportions that are similar to the Highlander. In terms of styling, we presume that the Japanese manufacturer will apply the same design philosophy as in the bZ4X, while similar things are expected on the inside as well.
On the other hand, details about the battery and powertrain are still a mystery, though we definitely expect better performance in both aspects. Moreover, we also believe that Toyota needs to offer more advanced battery technology, with better charging speeds, to be relevant in the market.
The latest reports suggest a starting price of around 50.000 dollars for base versions.
2024 Honda Prologue
For a long time, Honda has been resistant to electrification but that has finally come to the end. Nowadays, the Japanese manufacturer is electrifying the lineup with the help of General Motors, which will provide battery technology for all-electric Honda until 2026. The 2024 Honda Prologue will be the first one to come and, as you may presume, it will be a compact crossover.
At this point, we don’t know much about the drivetrain and battery, base various sources suggest both single and dual-electric motor variants, as well as a high-performance version. We could easily see the same setups as in the all-electric Equinox, which offers 210- and 290-hp variants, while other sources suggest more capable setups from Chevy Blazer, in which case high-performance versions would feature a max output of 557 horsepower. When it comes to the battery, the capacity is still unknown but sources estimate between 250 and 300 miles on a single charge.
On the other hand, the company already presented styling and interior design, which look modern and elegant. The cabin is also full of tech features, and we also expect it to be very spacious. For comparison, the Prologue offers an 8-inch longer wheelbase than CR-V. It is also 4 inches wider, which should also be reflected in more passenger space.

2024 Mazda CX-70
The Japanese manufacturer is seriously working on the lineup expansion and the 2024 Mazda CX-70 will be one of the latest additions. This model will be slotted between CX-50 and CX-90 and it will be a mid-size SUV with two rows of seats.
What’s particularly important is that it will ride on Mazda’s new platform, with an RWD-biased all-wheel-drive system, which will have a significant impact on the overall ride quality. Along with the new drivetrain, we will see new powertrain options, starting from the new 3.3-liter inline-six with around 340 horsepower. A plug-in hybrid version is also expected, with a combination of turbo-four engine and electric motors, for a combined output of 323 horsepower. Also, we count on a new 8-speed automatic transmission.
In terms of aesthetics, we count on the typical Mazda approach. From the inside, things shouldn’t be significantly different from the CX-90, except for smaller dimensions. The same is with the interior design, where we expect to see an elegant cabin, with quality materials and lots of features, including a massive 12.3-inch infotainment screen and a digital instrument cluster.
The 2024 Mazda CX-70 should arrive later this year.
2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV
The new era of the Hummer nameplate has just begun and it is characterized mostly by an electrified powertrain and the fact that this model is now under GMC’s badge. The production of Edition 1, which is the most capable variant of the SUV has just started. This version puts out 830 horsepower and 1100 pound-feet of torque, and it costs around 105.500 dollars.
The rest of the range will be joining the lineup during this and next year. The most basic models will feature a setup that offers 625 horsepower and a dual-motor setup. Allegedly, the most affordable Hummer SUV will cost around 80.000 dollars.
Of course, the recognizable exterior design is here but the cabin now looks way better than it looked in the previous generations. It is way more spacious, with an incredible cargo area, and it also looks way more upscale. We like the dashboard design and all the tech features. We, even more, like the fact that the all-electric Hummer will be a very capable off-roader, especially with the optional Extreme Off-Road package. These models will come with all-terrain tires, low-mounted cameras, upgraded axles and suspension, locking differentials and more.
2024 Audi Q9
The Q9 has been in talks for a long time and it looks like the Ingolstadt company is finally entering the full-size SUV segment. The 2024 Audi Q9 will be a new flagship SUV and from what we know so far, it won’t be electrified, at least not completely.
Instead, it will be based on a familiar MLB platform, with a lot of parts shared with the current Q7 and Q8 models. Of course, as a flagship model, it will offer an even higher level of luxury, with an even more refined ride and a more luxurious interior. The cabin will not be just more luxurious, but also more spacious. For the first time, we will see an Audi SUV with a properly sized third row.
When it comes to the powertrain lineup, we expect that gasoline units will represent the vast majority of engines, starting from the good-old 3.0-liter V6 that puts out around 335 horsepower. A few variants of the 4.0-liter V8 are expected as well, including the most powerful one with around 600 horsepower. We also expect to see hybrid versions on offer, while European drivers will also have a choice of two or more diesel units.
We expect that the North American model will arrive sometime in the next year, with a starting price of around 80.000 dollars.
2024 Acura ZDX
Honda’s luxury division is also in the process of massive electrification and the 2024 Acura ZDX will be the first model to come. The test mule has already been spotted on the road and, although camouflaged, it shows similar proportions to the mainstream sibling – Honda Prologue.
While the size seems similar, we have no doubt that this model will be packed into a much more luxurious package, with a more attractive appearance and a much nicer interior. The interior is still a mystery, but we hope that some bits could be taken from the recent Precision concept, which came with a super-futuristic cabin design.
Just like Honda’s electric cars, this one will also rely on GM’s technology. More precisely, battery and electric motors will be shared with Cadillac Lyriq. So, base models will be good for about 340 horsepower, while the range-topping variants should feature 500 horsepower. We also count on the same 102 kWh battery pack, which should ensure over 300 miles of range.
According to rumors, base models should cost around 60.000 dollars.
2024 Chevy Equinox EV
Chevy’s popular compact crossover will soon get an all-electric iteration and GM promises not just respectable performance, but also a pretty affordable price, without sacrificing interior quality or other aspects of the vehicle. According to the officials, base models should cost around 30.000 dollars, which sounds fantastic for an all-electric crossover.
Compared to the conventional Equinox, the all-electric iteration will feature a longer wheelbase and offer more interior room. Moreover, the images show a better-looking interior as well, with more tech features and other goodies.
When it comes to the drivetrain and performance, it looks like the 2024 Chevy Equinox EV will come in two variants. The base model will probably come with a single electric motor on the front axle, with a max output of 210 horsepower. On the other hand, dual-motor versions will offer all-wheel-drive and a max output of 290 horsepower. The max range should go between 250 and 300 miles, depending on the version you pick. Also, the company promises respectable charging speeds, where 70 miles of range would be added in about 10 minutes with a DC fast charger.
2024 Toyota 4Runner
Although today’s automotive industry is mostly about crossovers, electrification and similar things. There is still a good number of buyers that care only about a good-old body-on-frame layout and rugged design. That’s why the current-generation 4Runner still marks excellent sales results, 14 years after its launch. This will soon become even better, as the new generation is finally coming.
The new 2024 Toyota 4Runner is expected to bring improvements in many aspects, but its rugged nature won’t change. So, it should ride on the new TNGA-F platform, just like the new Tundra or Sequoia. The Polestar 3 is coming as an even more luxurious iteration of the Swedish premium brand Volvo, concentrated on electric vehicles only. After the launch of Polestar 2, the 2024 Polestar 3 comes as an all-electric crossover, with a sloping roofline that provides that coupe-like look.
Still, this will be much more than just a stylish SUV, considering the pretty capable drivetrain. Base models will come with a dual-motor setup, with a max output of 489 horsepower. The Performance version will bring a power boost to 519 horsepower and ensure that this SUV can hit 60 in just 4.5 seconds. The SUV will come equipped with a 107-kWh battery pack, which should ensure 300 miles of range.
Moreover, the company also promises a pretty respectable 250kW charging speed, which should ensure 10-80 percent of the battery is charged in just 30 minutes. Another strong aspect of this SUV will be its high-end interior, characterized by a combination of super-fine materials, minimalistic design and advanced tech features.
The 2024 Polestar 3 should arrive later this year, with a starting price of around 85.000 dollars.
2024 Ford Excursion
At this point, this is nothing more than a rumor but if you are willing to trust it, the legendary Super-Duty SUV could come back. Back in the day, this was the largest and the toughest SUV on the market, based on the F-250 Super Duty pickup. However, it was discontinued, due to the economical crisis and lack of efficiency.
This could change, according to the rumors, which suggest its revival already in the next year. According to them, we would see the same design approach, a design based on the F-250, which is also coming all-new for the next year. The chassis will be shared, as well as the big portion of styling. Of course, the new 2024 Ford Excursion would become even bigger than before, probably with a full 140 inches in the wheelbase.
Naturally, the engine lineup would also mimic the capable pickup truck, starting from the new 6.8-liter V8 engine. Of course, the Godzilla should be offered as well, with a displacement of 7.3 liters. Finally, we would also expect to see the new Excursion with the monstrous 6.6-liter turbodiesel, which should offer up to 1.200 pound-feet of torque with the new generation.
