2024 Toyota Fortuner Redesign: What to Expect

There aren’t many genuine body-on-frame SUVs left on the market today, especially those with strong off-road performances. The Fortuner is one of those rare birds, which operate on and off the roads in Australia, Asia and similar markets. The current generation has been around since 2015 and it looks like it’s time for a redesign. The latest reports suggest that the all-new model could arrive already in the next year, as the 2024 Toyota Fortuner.

The officials are still quiet but we pretty much know what to expect from the next-generation Fortuner, at least in terms of the base design. Of course, we count on a genuine SUV, with a rugged design and strong off-road performance. At the same time, the new generation should bring notable improvements regarding interior design, new features and general refinement. Finally, there is a whole bunch of possible additions in terms of the powertrain.

As we already mentioned, the all-new 2024 Toyota Fortuner should arrive sometime in the second half of 2023.

2024 Toyota Fortuner Design

We expect that the 2024 Toyota Fortuner will come with a completely new design, with improvements in various aspects. Once again, we expect to see a genuine body-on-frame design and, once again, we expect that most of the parts will be shared with Hilux. The legendary pickup is also about to get a full redesign in the next year and both models should switch to the new TNGA-F platform, which already underpins North American models like Tundra and Sequoia.

In any case, the new platform will bring all kinds of improvements. Besides the new technologies and design solutions, it will also bring a new suspension setup. We count on a little bit more refined setup, which would provide a smoother and more comfortable ride on the road. At the same time, we don’t expect the new model to lose any of its off-road capability.

Exterior

In terms of the exterior design, we presume that the 2024 Toyota Fortuner will be adapted to the brand’s latest design language. The current generation has a pretty distinguished look when compared to SUVs from other parts of the world but we expect that to change in the future. We presume that a lot of inspiration could be taken from the new Land Cruiser, especially in terms of the front-end design.

On the other hand, we don’t believe that the overall shape could change. Moreover, the proportions should remain pretty similar to the current model. This particularly refers to the length and wheelbase, as we are pretty sure that Toyota engineers don’t want to compromise any of Fortuner’s off-road potential.

Interior

So far, the Fortuner has always been closely related to Hilux and that refers to the cabin design as well. The current generations feature pretty much the same dashboard designs, so we shouldn’t expect anything different from the new model. Still, we do expect to see further improvements regarding materials and overall build quality. Of course, we also expect to see all kinds of new tech features, including the new infotainment system and the latest connectivity features.

As we already mentioned, the new generation probably won’t feature bigger changes in terms of size. So, we presume that the amount of interior room would remain the same as well. So, the new 2024 Toyota Fortuner would come with three rows of seats, though the third row would be less generous than the first two. The front and second-row seats would be comfortable, and spacious enough to accommodate adults with ease

2024 Toyota Fortuner Engines

The current generation comes with the recently-updated 2.8-liter turbodiesel, which features a max output of 150kW (201hp) and 500Nm (370lb-ft) of torque, which is plenty enough for strong performance. Therefore, we presume that the same engine could find its place under the hood of the new 2024 Toyota Fortuner. However, we expect to see a new transmission, probably an 8-speed automatic gearbox. Naturally, the new model would be available with all kinds of off-road features, starting from 4WD, various traction control modes, a two-speed transfer case, locking differentials etc.

Some sources also speculate about the possibility to see this engine coupled with a mild-hybrid system. Other sources suggest a classic hybrid setup, based on the new 2.4-liter turbo-four engine. The same turbo-four may be offered in some markets as the base powertrain options, with a max output of around 275 horsepower.

2024 Toyota Fortuner Release Date and Price

We expect that the next-generation 2024 Toyota Fortuner will arrive sometime in the second half of 2023. The current model starts at around A$50.000 and we presume that the new model won’t cost much more than that. Of course, the competition remains the same, with models like Ford Everest, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, Isuzu MU-X etc.
