After the recent redesign of the V8 Land Cruiser, which now carries the LC300 moniker, everyone talks about the next generation of the smaller, Land Cruiser Prado. This model hasn’t received bigger changes for a very long time. The current generation has been around since 2009 and despite several updates, it still feels a little bit outdated in some aspects. That’s why the latest reports suggest a full redesign for the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado.
At this point, we don’t know much about the new model but we are pretty sure it will bring a lot of novelties. Of course, there is the matter of a new platform, as well as new aesthetics, new cabin layout etc. Also, big novelties are expected under the hood, where we should see a hybrid powertrain in a Land Cruiser Prado for the first time. However, that probably won’t mean the discontinuation of diesel units.

2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado Redesign
Without any doubt, this redesign will bring tons of novelties. As we already mentioned, the current generation has been around since 2009, so the changes will certainly be significant. Of course, one of the first things that come to mind is the platform. Just like the rest of Toyota’s BoF lineup, this model will also switch to the company’s new TNGA-F platform, which will bring many benefits. The new model will be lighter and better to drive, thanks to the lower center of gravity. Moreover, it will also provide a smooth and more comfortable ride, thanks to the new chassis and suspension setup.
In terms of the exterior design, we don’t expect bigger changes regarding the size. The new model should feature similar proportions, while the wheelbase should remain pretty much the same as well. Simply, Toyota engineers don’t want to sacrifice any of off-road performance, not even for the sake of a more spacious third row of seats. Speaking of the off-road performances, the Land Cruiser has always been a world-class performer, so we expect nothing less from the new model. Of course, four-wheel drive will be standard, along with various traction modes. Furthermore, base models will come with center locking differential, while locking front and rear axles should be available, just like things like disconnecting sway bars, two-speed transfer case, further suspension upgrades etc.
Styling and Interior Design
In terms of styling, we count on the implementation of the brand’s latest design language. So, we expect to see a front face that closely resembles the new 300 Series, though there is no doubt we will be seeing a lot of unique details as well. The overall shape won’t change much, though we expect to see a little bit bolder and more muscular design approach.
The current model features excellent build quality. However, the dashboard started to look a little bit old, so we count that the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado will bring a completely new, with more modern aesthetics, nicer materials and other upgrades. Of course, we also count on a full load of new tech features, whether it’s about convenience or driver-assistance features.
As we’ve just mentioned, the new model won’t feature bigger changes in terms of exterior dimensions. So, the interior space shouldn’t change much either. The 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado will continue as a 7-seater but be sure that the third row will be pretty tight. On the other hand, the first and the second rows of seats will be spacious and comfortable, accommodating adults with ease.

The powertrain lineup will significantly change. First of all, we expect to see a hybrid version for the first time in this SUV. That will be a completely new system, based on a turbo-four engine. Details are still unavailable but many believe that the max output could go around 350 horsepower. This powertrain would also come with a new 10-speed automatic transmission.
However, this doesn’t mean that we won’t be seeing diesel units in the offer. In many parts of the world, the new generation will continue with a good-old 2.8-liter turbodiesel, which puts out around 150kW (201hp) and 500Nm of torque. We could even see the new 3.3-liter V6 turbodiesel in some parts of the world.
Finally, the company could offer the new 2.4-liter turbo-four with 275 horsepower in some parts of the world, as a replacement for the old 4.0-liter V6.
