2024 Toyota Sequoia Preview: Changes, Powertrain, Specs, Release Date

Toyota’s largest SUV has just received a full redesign after 15 years and improvements are significant. However, that doesn’t mean that we won’t be seeing further novelties in the second production year, which will arrive in the second half of 2023 as the 2024 Toyota Sequoia. At this point, the officials are still quiet but it looks like the next year’s model will get a pure gasoline version, equipped with the turbo V6. Such powertrain options will make Sequoia more affordable and, also very important, it should provide more cargo room, which is currently one of the biggest drawbacks.

In any case, the overall layout will remain the same, which means that you may count on familiar pros and cons. This SUV has so many great things to offer, starting from good driving dynamics, a smooth ride, a nice interior and a lot of standard equipment. On the other hand, the key drawbacks are the small cargo area and the not particularly comfortable third row.

We expect that the 2024 Toyota Sequoia will arrive sometime in the second half of 2023.

2024 Toyota Sequoia Could Get Gasoline Version

While the recent redesign has brought significant changes and improvements, many expect to see more novelties for the second production year as well. This particularly refers to the powertrain department, considering that the initial model came only as a hybrid. The 2024 Toyota Sequoia should come with a pure gasoline powertrain as well. That would make the base model more affordable, and also bring some benefits on the inside, which we will talk about later.

Of course, the gasoline version would come with a 3.4-liter turbocharged V6, which puts out around 389 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. On the other hand, hybrid models would continue with the same setup that offers a combined output of 437 horsepower and 583 pound-feet of torque.

Both units use a 10-speed automatic transmission. The current hybrid version returns around 21 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway, while the new gasoline version would probably be good for about 17 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway.

When properly equipped, this SUV can tow up to 9.520 pounds, which is the second-best rating in the class, only behind the Jeep Wagoneer.

2024 Toyota Sequoia Design

On the other hand, we don’t expect to see any design changes. The overall layout will remain the same, based on the new TNGA-F platform, which brings various benefits, especially in terms of ride quality. The new Sequoia is smooth and also with reasonably good handling. Furthermore, we like the new look, which feels rugged and aggressive.

The Sequoia is also a capable off-roader, especially if you pick the TRD Pro trim. Besides various styling upgrades, this version also comes with a full load of off-road features, such as a two-speed transfer case with low-range gearing, a locking rear differential, all-terrain tires, skid plates etc.

Interior

On the inside, the 2024 Toyota Sequoia will continue with the same overall design, which looks significantly better compared to the previous generation. The overall build quality is very good, and the cabin also looks pretty attractive. Also, there is a decent amount of tech and convenience features that make this cabin look even more upscale.

2024 Toyota Sequoia Interior

The first two rows of seats are very generous with space and super comfortable. On the other hand, the third row is a little bit tight for the segment, while the cargo area is smaller compared to rivals like Ford Expedition and Chevy Tahoe.

That’s where the new gasoline version could bring significant improvements. Namely, the main reason for the aforementioned drawbacks is the specific design of the rear seats, as the battery is placed below. For that reason, the third row doesn’t fold flat, so the max cargo capacity is just around 87 cubic feet. Hopefully, the gasoline version would come with a new seat design that folds flat and provides way more cargo room.

Features

This aspect shouldn’t bring more notable changes. So, base models should come equipped with goodies like a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, an 8-inch touch screen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, navigation, satellite radio, an eight-speaker stereo, Bluetooth, multiple USB ports, a Wi-Fi hot spot, tri-zone automatic climate control, proximity keyless entry, push-button start and a moonroof.

Among upgrades, expect to find things like a 14-inch touch screen, a 14-speaker stereo, wireless device charging, a 120-volt household-style power outlet, rear sunshades, a panoramic sunroof etc.

2024 Toyota Sequoia Release Date and Price

We expect that the 2024 Toyota Sequoia will arrive sometime in the second half of 2023. The new gasoline version would make this SUV more affordable, considering that the current base model with a hybrid powertrain starts at around 59.000 dollars, which is notably more than you have to pay for base versions of rival models.
