2025 Toyota 4Runner Is The Most Anticipated SUV of the Year!

It may be old, but the current generation of Toyota’s mid-size SUV still makes impressive sales numbers. Some may say it’s because of the fact that there aren’t many genuine body-on-frame SUVs remaining on the market but we can’t deny that the current generation still has a couple of good things to offer, even though it hasn’t changed significantly since 2009. Still, everything comes to an end eventually, so the current version will. The new generation is in development and from what we know so far, it will debut as the 2025 Toyota 4Runner, most likely in the first half of the next year.

This redesign should bring various improvements, starting from the new design, new platform, new technologies and, of course, a new powertrain. It looks like the company is preparing a new hybrid setup for this rugged SUV, which would offer a good balance between performance and efficiency.

2025 Toyota 4Runner Redesign

despite the popularity, the current generation is too old to keep pace with rivals. Simply, it offers subpar performance and efficiency, while most rivals also offer better comfort and handling. For that reason, the all-new 2025 Toyota 4Runner will bring significant improvements, hopefully. The first thing that comes to mind is the platform, which will be borrowed from the new Tacoma. It is a slightly shortened variant of the familiar TNGA-F platform, which has already been underpinning models like Tundra and Sequoia for a while.

The benefits of the new architecture will be numerous, starting from a completely new chassis and suspension setup, which will ensure better ride quality, especially on the road. Still, the new model won’t lose any of its ruggedness and it will still be an excellent off-roader. Moreover, the new chassis should offer even better torsional rigidity, which would improve handling, off-road performance and even towing capacity.

Exterior

the 2025 Toyota 4Runner will bring a completely new design but don’t expect any radical changes in terms of the overall approach. This will still be a classic body-on-frame SUV, with a mid-size dimension. We expect that the wheelbase won’t be stretched much, as the company wants to keep the off-road potential at the same level.

On the other hand, we are about to see a completely new styling. Details are still unknown, but we expect to see the evolution of the current model. In other words, Toyota designers would do the same thing they did with the new Tacoma, taking the old model as the basis and making it look sharper, bolder and more rugged.

Of course, models like TRD Pro will continue with all kinds of off-road upgrades, as well as unique styling details. Moreover, we could also see a new trim level called Trailhunter, which would come with all kinds of accessories, dedicated to overlanders.

Interior

The cabin design is arguably one of the weakest points of the current generation. Simply, it looks outdated and features subpar interior quality. So, what we expect from the new model is to bring much more modern aesthetics, with the dashboard that takes a lot of inspiration from the new Tacoma. Furthermore, the materials should be much finer. We also expect to see a full load of new tech features, including the new infotainment system, digital instrument cluster and many more.

The overall dimensions of the all-new 2025 Toyota 4Runner won’t change much, so we presume that the cabin space should remain similar, both for the passengers and for cargo. Therefore, three rows of seats should be part of the standard equipment and the third row should remain typically tight for the class.

2025 Toyota 4Runner Engines

This is where the current generation lags behind the competition. Simply, although bulletproof, the current V6 is old and doesn’t offer a particularly good balance between power and efficiency. Moreover, it is one of the thirstiest models in the class, while the power output is mediocre at best. Therefore, the new generation will come with significant improvements.

Base models will most likely come with a turbo-four unit. We are thinking of the familiar 2.4-liter turbo-four, which would offer a max output of around 275 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque. On the other hand, higher trim levels would come with a hybrid powertrain. That system could either be a detuned version of Tundra’s V6-based hybrid, or a new setup based on a turbo-four. In both cases, we expect it to come coupled with a 10-speed automatic gearbox.

2025 Toyota 4Runner Release Date and Price

As mentioned, the 2025 Toyota 4Runner will arrive already in the first half of the next year, most likely in the second quarter of 2024. As for the price, we presume that base models could go around 45.000 dollars.
