What To Expect From the 2023 Suzuki Jimny Hybrid?

Suzuki is becoming a serious player in the SUV class again. The company was a pioneer in the crossover segment, where we still can find their vehicles. Vitara is definitely the nameplate recognized in most of the world. But, the star of the lineup is a smaller vehicle, whose new version, the 2023 Suzuki Jimny Hybrid, is luring more interest, not only in markets where the vehicle is going to be sold. In the foreseeable future, that might be the United States as well, if the company continues to grow so rapidly.

The 2023 Suzuki Jimny Hybrid is the next stage in the evolution of the model. But, it draws a lot of questions. First – is the new system is about to harm the agility of the vehicle? It is Jimny’s strongest side. Also, experts are not sure if a hybrid engine can do the same things on and off the road as the conventional configurations. The gas mileage was never an issue for owners of the small crossover.

One thing is sure – more Suzuki vehicles are going to introduce hybrid engines in the foreseeable future, thanks to the cooperation with a leader in this world, Toyota. The new Escudo hybrid is coming to the Japanese market. Soon, it will be available in other countries with the Vitara nameplate. Since those two are using some styling cues from the Jimny, it wouldn’t be unexpected to see the Jimny taking a hybrid system from its siblings.

Off Road Capabilities

The 2023 Suzuki Jimny Hybrid will be ready for some off-road drive. It’s a must for the Japanese company. The small crossover is already fuel-friendly. A hybrid system is there to add some more power that will make off-roading more fun. Still, details are unavailable yet. We know a similar system is coming for the Escudo, an SUV being sold exclusively in Japan. According to a few official details, the gas mileage of the new unit will be close to 50 mpg. It looks impressive, but have in mind we are talking about very small crossovers. Jimny is just 144 inches long. The Japanese KEI version is even shorter. That doesn’t ensure enough space for passengers.

A 1.5-liter engine is currently the main drivetrain and owners are more than happy with it. The abovementioned KEI version comes with a 600 cc plant and it is exclusive to the homeland. The cooperation with Toyota will definitely bring something new. First of all, the leading Japanese carmaker is investing a lot into hybrid and electric markets. Their Rav4 and Highlander SUV are the best buys if you are after the mileage. Some vehicles are offering special off-road packages. The meanest bundles are TRD PRO. Some of those features and solutions will be installed in future Suzuki vehicles, for sure. The 2023 Suzuki Jimny Hybrid could become even more impressive with the TRD upgrades.

2023 Suzuki Jimny Hybrid Release Date

Do not expect to see the 2023 Suzuki Jimny Hybrid in production. This is still a rumor. If the company confirms the arrival of Jimny Hybrid in the next few months, we will only see the concept in 2023. But, never underestimate the Japanese carmaker. Suzuki surprised us many times in the past.

But, one thing is missing – US buyers can’t find the company’s vehicles at dealerships. Suzuki had some great models in the past but missed the chance to deliver them to the main automotive market in the world. The 2023 Suzuki Jimny Hybrid would be something that can change history. It has the potential to be one of the main rivals to the 2-door Wrangler. Of course, a lot of improvements should be done. Plus, the US market is very specific for its various requirements set by EPA, IIHS, and other organizations.

Price

The small crossover can’t cost too much. The price of the vehicle in Japan is starting at $11,000, while the high-end models are not more expensive than $15k. It looks more than attractive. But, the performances would limit the sales of the 2023 Suzuki Jimny Hybrid, or the conventional model, to those buyers looking for an off-road vehicle. Still, a 2-door Wrangler costs two times more. With all the modifications Suzuki would have to make on the Jimny, we don’t think the MSRP would top $25,000.
