Subaru’s flagship crossover has been around for a couple of years and if we consider the company’s usual production cycle, which lasts five years in most cases, there is a chance to see novelties for the next year. The 2022 Subaru Ascent will represent the fourth production year of the current generation, and that’s the time when this Japanese manufacturer usually mixes things and bring updates in terms of styling, new equipment etc.
Of course, these updates won’t change the overall layout of the vehicle and you may definitely count on the same design, which has a lot of great things to offer. This is a well-rounded SUV, which is both practical and stylish, an excellent choice for anyone who is looking for an elegant family hauler. Furthermore, its well-known AWD system and capable turbocharged engine make it a great choice for more ambitious drivers as well. We expect to see it sometime in the second half of the year.
2022 Subaru Ascent Design
As we’ve just mentioned, the 2022 Subaru Ascent changes should be quite numerous. We are talking about the fourth production year, the time when this manufacturer usually introduces several changes, as some kind of a mid-cycle refresh. Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is the visual update. In this aspect, Subaru designers are usually very subtle. Therefore, we expect to see no more than a couple of tweaks at the front, in form of a new grille and revised bumper. Other than that, we don’t expect to see anything in particular. Still, we do expect to see new color options, wheels and other things that typically come with a mid-cycle refresh.
On the other side, the mechanical aspect of this crossover definitely won’t change. You may count on the same mechanics, based on the company’s contemporary, modular platform that underprints pretty much every model in the lineup.
On the inside, most of the things will remain the same. You may count on the same overall layout, though we won’t exclude the possibility to see things like new color schemes and materials. Also, we can find 2022 Subaru Ascent rumors that suggest an updated infotainment system. Of course, this would probably cause some tweaks to the center stack as well.
Despite the possible changes, the 2022 Subaru Ascent interior will keep the same overall layout. This means you may count on the same amount of space, which is pretty generous. All three rows are adult-friendly and accommodate taller persons with ease. We also like the cargo area, which offers some pretty respectable numbers. You may count on about 17.8 cubic feet of cargo space behind the last row, 47.5 cubic feet behind the second row, and 86.5 cubic feet behind the first row.
Naturally, the upcoming update will probably bring novelties in terms of standard equipment. Still, we have to say that the current model is already fairly well equipped and that the number of novelties in this aspect won’t be too big either.
The current model comes standard with goodies like tri-zone climate control, keyless entry, a 6.5-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, six speakers, satellite radio, Bluetooth, and four USB ports. The potential additions to the list of standard equipment are those features that are currently optional. Those would be things like second-row climate controls, remote engine start, push-button start, an 8-inch touch screen, a Wi-Fi hot spot, two USB ports in the third row, navigation, and a 14-speaker Harman Kardon audio system.
The list of standard safety features currently includes goodies like a rearview camera, forward automatic emergency braking, pre-collision throttle management, adaptive cruise control with lane centering and lane keep assist, lane departure and sway warning, and steering-responsive LED headlights with automatic high beams. Things like LED fog lights, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane change assist, rain-sensing windshield wipers, a rear-vision mirror camera are some of the potential additions.
2022 Subaru Ascent Engine
Some reports also speculate about the 2022 Subaru Ascent Hybrid. In our opinion, this will probably have to wait for a few more years. The electrified version would probably come with the next generation and we presume it would be based on some of Toyota’s well-known and proven systems.
Therefore, the next year’s model will probably continue with a familiar 2.4-liter turbo-four engine, which delivers around 260 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque. It comes in pair with a CVT gearbox and delivers a smooth and convenient ride, with very good dynamics. At the same time, fuel economy is pretty impressive. It goes around 21 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway, which is above-average, even when compared with 2WD rivals.
2022 Subaru Ascent Release Date and Price
We expect that the 2022 Subaru Ascent release date will be scheduled for the third quarter of the year. Bigger price changes are not expected, so base versions should go around 33.000 dollars. Some of the key competitors are models like Honda Pilot, Nissan Pathfinder, Chevy Traverse etc.
