2023 Honda Pilot Redesign: Changes, Features, Release Date

Honda’s flagship SUV has been around for a while and it’s time for changes. The new generation is under development and should hit the market sometime in the last quarter of 2022. At this point, the company still tries to keep most details a secret, even though the test mule has been on the road for some time. Although under heavy camouflage, the test model indicates changes in various aspects. All these upgrades should make the 2023 Honda Pilot more appealing and improve sales numbers, which are already pretty good.

The next-generation 2023 Honda Pilot will come with all kinds of upgrades. One of the first things that come to mind is the size. The new model will be bigger, and it will also ride on a new platform. Naturally, we count on a completely new styling, as well as on the new interior design. On the other hand, we expect that the new model will continue with the same V6 engine under the hood.

2023 Honda Pilot Redesign

We expect a lot of changes to come with this redesign. At this point, the Japanese company tries to keep details about the new model a secret, but some things are pretty easy to predict. Of course, one of them is the platform, which will be shared with the recently-redesigned Acura MDX. The two models will once again ride on the same chassis and there is no doubt that the new model will benefit a lot in terms of the ride quality.

Of course, some of the biggest changes will come in terms of suspension setup. The current model is very comfortable but we expect that the new model will bring a bit of athleticism to the table. Once again, base models will come with front-wheel drive, while the all-wheel-drive will be offered as an option.

Exterior Design

The test model has been spotted on the road and even though it still wears complete camouflage, some things are easy to see. The new generation seems to feature a more rugged styling and bigger dimensions. That’s not a surprise if we consider that the new Acura MDX came with 2.8 inches more in wheelbase than before. The 2023 Honda Pilot will come with the same increase, while we expect growth in other dimensions as well.

Naturally, we count on the new styling as well. At this point, it’s hard to talk about specifics but we presume that Honda is about to implement the latest design language, which will characterize other models in the lineup as well, starting from the company’s best-seller, the CR-V. More details will be known once the test model takes a bit of its cover. That should happen in the next few months.

Interior

The 2023 Honda Pilot interior will also come completely new. First of all, we count on a new dashboard design. The current model looks nice and features very good build quality. However, younger rivals look fancier, so we may presume that Honda will go in the same direction. This means we are about to see more attractive aesthetics, more tech features and even nicer materials.

On the other hand, the overall layout won’t change significantly, though the longer wheelbase will definitely bring benefits in terms of the passenger space. Of course, three rows of seats will be standard, while we have no doubt that the new model will also feature tremendous cargo volume. For reference, the current model is good for about 18.5 cubic feet behind the third row, 55.9 cubic feet behind the second row and 109.2 cubic feet of the total cargo volume. That’s impressive for a mid-size SUV.

2023 Honda Pilot Engines

Unlike the rest of the vehicle, this aspect won’t bring too many changes. The 2023 Honda Pilot will continue with the well-known 3.5-liter V6, which will feature a max output of 290 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque. The engine will come coupled with a 10-speed automatic transmission and we have no doubt that this setup will provide more than satisfying performance. Also, we presume that mpg ratings will be pretty similar to the outgoing generation, which would mean around 19 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway.

Also, there is a chance to see a plug-in hybrid version one day. At this point, the officials are still quiet about this powertrain and we are pretty sure that we will have to wait for another year or two to see such a model in Honda’s portfolio.

2023 Honda Pilot Release Date and Price

The 2023 Honda Pilot should hit the market sometime in the second half of 2022, though a more precise date is yet to be announced. When it comes to the price, we presume that base versions will go around 37.000 dollars.

  1. The new MDX was touted to have a bespoke chassis, as does the new TLX. So they no longer share platforms with the Pilot / Accord.
