The new generation of Ford’s compact crossover arrived last year and it handles so well that it simply begs for more power. That’s why rumors about the ST version appeared right after the initial launch. These days, things are still quite uncertain. On one side, sources like Ford Authority suggest that the 2021 Ford Escape ST won’t happen. Others suggest the opposite.
We will stick to the later and those reports suggest all kinds of interesting upgrades for this particular version. Those who are familiar with Ford’s ST models probably know what to expect. For the rest of you, be sure that this version will come with plenty of power, as well as with all kinds of mechanical upgrades. Count on completely new suspension setup, brakes and similar things. Also, count on a plethora of visual upgrades, which will make this crossover look sportier and more capable.
2021 Ford Escape ST Design
Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is the design. This crossover already comes with a pretty nice setup but the 2021 Ford Escape ST will take everything to the next level. In terms of mechanics, you may definitely count on new chassis and suspension setup. The new suspension will be stiffer and will bring this crossover lower to the ground. Also, count one new brake and some chassis reinforcement.
The styling will come with significant upgrades as well. At this point, we still don’t know the details but one of the things that seem certain is a new grille, probably with a honeycomb pattern. Furthermore, count on lots of black trim, new wheels, low-profile tires, rear bumper and similar kinds of upgrades. The bumper will be upgraded with bigger air vents, while aerodynamics would also be improved with things like rear diffuser etc.
Of course, all kinds of upgrades are expected on the inside as well. While the overall cabin layout is about to remain the same, we expect to see all kinds of exclusive details. The first thing that comes to mind is a flat-bottomed steering wheel, while we also count on sporty pedals, some exclusive dashboard materials and similar things. Naturally, sporty seats should come as well. Count on more support, while leather should be standard as well. Of course, everything would be spiced up with a little bit of contrast stitching.
We also count on a long list of standard equipment. The 2021 Ford Escape ST interior should come fully loaded with tech goodies, safety systems and similar things. On the other side, the overall cabin layout will remain the same, so you may count on the same amount of leg and headroom, as well as on the same amount of passenger space.
2021 Ford Escape ST Engine
Of course, the most interesting part of the new version will be under the hood. The exact 2021 Ford Escape ST specs are yet to come, but some of the most basic things are pretty easy to guess. Of course, we are talking about the well-known 2.3-liter turbo-four, which will certainly feature more than 300 horsepower and more than 300 pound-feet of torque. With such numbers, we have no doubt the new version will be pretty quick. We expect to see 0-60 time under 6 seconds, while the top speed should go around 145 miles per hour. The exact numbers should come in the near future.
2021 Ford Escape ST Release Date and Price
The 2021 Ford Escape ST might come already in the next year, though the company is still quiet. When it comes to the price, we presume that this version will go somewhere between 45.000 and 50.000 dollars. When it comes to the competition, you may presume that this model will compete with other hot versions of the compact crossover. One of them could be a Mazda CX-5 equipped with a turbo-four engine. Also, there is a new Toyota RAV4 Prime, which promises some really respectable performances.
The Rest of the Lineup Continues in the Same Way
The rest of the lineup is expected to carry on in the same way. Still, we are about to see some minor updates. We are about to see some new optional packages, while the trim level organization will remain the same. Still, each version will come with a couple of novelties, such as new 19-inch wheels for the Titanium model.
When it comes to the powertrain, the new plug-in hybrid version will become available in lower trim levels too. On the other side, the gasoline units will carry on in the same way. Base versions will continue with a 1.5-liter turbo-four, while higher trims will be equipped with a capable 2.0-liter turbo-four, which is good for about 250 horsepower. Both engines come in pair with 8-speed automatic transmission.
