2021 Kia Soul Changes, Specs, Features

The current generation is still very fresh, so it’s no wonder that the changes are for the next year are minimal. Practically, the only notable novelty for the 2021 Kia Soul is the addition of rear occupant alert, while the GT-Line Turbo has been renamed to Turbo. Also, we should mention that X-Line and GT-Line models now come with new shock valves, which should have a positive impact on the ride. Other than these novelties, things have remained pretty much the same.

This means that you may count on the same design that arrived last year. The new generation sticks to familiar design philosophy, so you may count on a crossover that is really practical and spacious. This refers to both passenger room and cargo area, while the infotainment system is also very easy to use. Another thing we like about this model is a pretty attractive price tag.

2021 Kia Soul Design

In terms of base design characteristics, the 2021 Kia Soul definitely won’t change. Simply, we are talking about a model that has been redesigned last year. This redesign has brought evolutionary changes only, so the new model continues with the well-known design philosophy. There is a good-old boxy shape, which is highly beneficial in terms of interior space and overall practicality. Changes in terms of aesthetics were minimal and the only notable difference you’ll notice is at the front, where the new model comes with a new face that includes narrower headlights and grille, while the bumper looks sportier than before.

On the other side, changes in terms of mechanics were significant, according to the manufacturer. There is a new platform, while the new suspensions setup ensures notable improvements in terms of comfort. As we’ve just mentioned, X-Line and GT-Line models will get new shock valves for the next year.

Interior

Changes on the inside are not expected. The 2021 Kia Soul interior will look pretty much the same as in the current model, which means you may count on a super practical and very spacious cabin. The boxy shape ensures lots of headroom in both rows and makes this vehicle pretty friendly in terms of the cargo area and bulky objects. Such a shape also means a lot of clean glass surfaces which, in a combination with high seating position, ensure excellent visibility in all directions.

Besides plenty of room, this cabin also looks very nice, at least for some. Simply, the dashboard looks quite polarizing but if you like such a design, you will definitely be satisfied with the quality, even though there are some surfaces with hard plastics. All in all, there is nothing big to complain about.

Features

When it comes to the standard equipment, we won’t see any particular change for the next year, at least no in terms of tech features. The 2021 Kia Soul will carry on with a familiar list of standard and optional features. Base models should come standard with goodies like a 7-inch touch screen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, six speakers, a USB port, and Bluetooth. The list of optional tech goodies includes things like a 10.25-inch touch screen, wireless device charging, navigation, HD Radio, satellite radio, and a Harman Kardon audio system, as well as goodies like a sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, and push-button start.

When it comes to safety features, the biggest addition is the rear occupant alert, which is now standard across the whole range. Other than that, a rearview camera also remains the standard features. The rest of the goodies is optional and some of the highlights are things like a head-up display, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, forward automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane keep assist, lane change assists, rear parking sensors, rear cross traffic alert, adaptive cruise control etc.

2021 Kia Soul Engines

When it comes to 2021 Kia Soul specs, you may count on a couple of familiar engines in the offer. Base models will continue with a familiar 2.0-liter four-cylinder unit. It puts out around 147 horsepower and comes in pair with either manual or CVT gearbox. It works okay but the optional turbo-four seems like a much better choice. Of course, we are talking about a 1.6-liter unit, which puts out pretty impressive 201 horsepower and comes in pair with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

Both engines are good in terms of fuel economy. The base engine returns around 25 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway when paired with a manual gearbox. Models with CVT are more efficient and you may count on an additional 3 mpg in the city and 2 mpg on the highway. The turbo-four returns around 27 mpg in the city a 32 mpg on the highway.
