2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE Preview: Facelift, Changes, Price

The segment of luxury mid-size SUVs is tougher than ever but some things haven’t changed. The GLE is still one of the class leaders and for the next year, it will be even better. We are about to see a facelift, which will bring novelties in various aspects. The 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE will bring some styling changes, but novelties on the inside as well. Furthermore, we also expect to see a new infotainment system.

Despite the changes, the overall layout will remain the same. In other words, you may count on familiar characteristics, such as composed ride and nice steering feel, luxurious cabin, excellent infotainment system, spacious cargo area and a long list of capable engine options. The third row will remain an option and it will remain not particularly spacious.

Even though the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE will come with several updates, it won’t come much earlier than usual. We expect to see it sometime late in the year.

2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE Design

As we’ve just mentioned, all kinds of changes are expected to come with the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE. First of all, this update will bring some styling changes. The testing model has been spotted and we can clearly see which areas will be upgraded. First of all, we are about to see new head and taillights, designed in the same fashion as the ones found on the recently-refreshed E-Class. Furthermore, we can also see a new bumper, while the rest of the vehicle is about to remain largely the same. Of course, there is always room for novelties in terms of new wheels, new color options etc.

Mechanical changes aren’t expected. So, the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE will continue to deliver familiar ride quality, which is mostly about comfort. Still, the steering is direct enough, so more ambitious drivers won’t be disappointed either.

Interior

Interior upgrades are coming too and from what we can see and hear, they seem quite interesting. One of the first things that should be mentioned is a new steering wheel, which will most likely be the same as the one found in the new S-Class. Besides the new steering wheel, we will also see the next generation of the company’s well-known infotainment system. However, the screen size will remain the same.

Other than that, the cabin design will remain largely the same. So, you may count on high-end materials, excellent fit and finish, as well as on plenty of interior space. Base models come with two rows of seats, which are spacious and comfortable. The third row is optional but it’s only for kids. The cargo area offers around 33.3 cubic feet of cargo space with its rear seats upright and 74.9 cubic in total, which is a pretty good rating for the segment.

Features

We have no doubt that this facelift will also bring a lot of new things to the list of standard and available equipment. Unfortunately, we still don’t know the details. For reference, the current model comes standard with goodies like a 12.3-inch touch screen, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, five USB ports, HD Radio, satellite radio, wireless device charging, dual-zone automatic climate control, proximity keyless entry, push-button start, a hands-free power liftgate, and a sunroof. Among options, you can find goodies like quad-zone automatic climate control, a cabin air fragrance system, rear sunshades, power soft-close doors, panoramic sunroof, premium sound systems etc.

The same thing is with safety. The current model comes standard with goodies like a rearview camera, front and rear parking sensors, hands-free park assist, blind spot monitoring, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, and driver drowsiness monitoring.

2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE Engines

The engine lineup shouldn’t change too much, so we count on familiar options on the offer. So, the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE 350 will continue as the base version, equipped with a 2.0-liter turbo-four, which puts out around 255 horsepower. That’s enough for daily commuting but if you’re up to something more engaging, there is a 3.0-liter inline-six, which puts out 362 horsepower. The same engine is available in a more powerful version, with 429 horsepower and an AMG badge.

The engine offer continues with a 4.0-liter V8 engine, which puts out 483 horsepower. The same engine powers the AMG-badged version, with a max output of 603 horsepower.

All engines come in pair with a 9-speed automatic transmission.

2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE Release Date and Price

We expect that the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE will hit the market sometime late in the year, with a starting price of around 55.000 dollars. Key competitors are models like BMW X5, Audi Q7, Volvo XC90 etc.
