2023 Mazda CX-30 Preview: Specs, Features, Changes, Price

The world of subcompact crossovers is full is great little cars but a small number of them can keep pace with Mazda CX-30. Based on the Mazda 3, this crossovers offers so many great things and the fact that it’s been around for less than two years is a clear indicator that the Japanese manufacturer won’t bother with updates too much in the near future. The 2023 Mazda CX-30 should carry on in the same way, though there is always room for minor updates like new standard features, new packages and similar things.

The rest of the vehicle will remain the same and, therefore, you may count on familiar design characteristics, pros and cons. This small crossover will remain one of the most engaging models to drive in its class, with spry handling and a peppy optional turbo-four engine. Furthermore, it will continue with arguably the nicest interior in the class, with lots of standard equipment and overall refinement.

Considering all this, it’s easy to conclude that the 2023 Mazda CX-30 will probably hit the market sometime late in the year.

2023 Mazda CX-30 Design

The 2023 Mazda CX-30 will represent the third production year of the current generation and therefore, we don’t believe that bigger changes could come. The overall design will definitely remain the same. This SUV is heavily based on the Mazda 3 hatchback and that’s particularly beneficial in terms of handling and overall performance. This is arguably the most agile small crossover on the market but what we like about it is that it’s pretty comfortable and refined at the same time.

Besides great driving characteristics, this crossover also offers one of the best exterior designs on the market, based on the famous KODO design language. We don’t believe that the next year could bring any notable styling change, though there is always room for new color options and appearance packages.

Interior

The interior is probably even more impressive than the exterior design. Just like any other Mazda on the market, this one also looks very stylish from the inside. The dashboard features a minimalistic and elegant design, while the selection of materials and attention to detail are exceptional. Add to this a pretty generous amount of tech and convenience features, and you get probably the nicest cabin in the segment.

However, this cabin design isn’t without flaws. While the aesthetics and build quality are amazing, the amount of space isn’t all that great. The front seats are spacious and comfortable, while the second row can accommodate average-sized adults only. The cargo area offers just 20.2 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats and 45.2 in total, but that’s the thing that bothers most subcompact SUVs.

Features

The next year might bring a few novelties to the list of standard equipment but most of the things will remain the same. Therefore, all models should come standard with goodies like an 8.8-inch display, an eight-speaker sound system, HD Radio, dual USB ports, a Wi-Fi hot spot, Bluetooth, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay. The list of options should include things like satellite radio, a 12-speaker Bose stereo, navigation, 7-inch digital driver display, dual-zone automatic climate control, proximity keyless entry, and a sunroof.

The same thing is with safety features. So, all models should come standard with goodies like a rearview camera, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control, driver attention monitor etc. Among upgrades, expect to find things like adaptive headlights, road sign recognition, surround-view camera, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, head-up display etc.

2023 Mazda CX-30 Engines

Things under the hood won’t change, so base models should come with a well-known 2.5-liter gasoline engine, which features a max output of 186 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque. That power ensures driving dynamics that are good enough to satisfy most drivers. Still, more ambitious drivers will probably go for the optional turbo-four. This engine puts out 227 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque and offers significantly better performance. Things become even better when you use premium gasoline. In that case, the max output goes up to 250 horsepower and 320 pound-feet of torque.

Both engines come in pair with a smooth-shifting 6-speed automatic transmission, while all-wheel drive is standard in all models. When it comes to fuel economy, the base engine returns around 24 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. The optional turbo-four is slightly thirstier and returns around 22 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway.

2023 Mazda CX-30 Release Date and Price

We expect that the 2023 Mazda CX-30 will hit the market sometime in the last quarter of the year, with a starting price of around 23.000 dollars. Key competitors are models like Buick Encore GX, Kia Seltos, Honda HR-V etc.
