2021 Volvo XC20 New Crossover Rival Audi Q2

The modern world is all about crossovers, and a lot about electrification. Therefore, Volvo’s next move makes perfect sense. That next move will be called the 2021 Volvo XC20, according to the latest reports. It looks like the Swedish manufacturer is planning a new entry-level model, which would sit below the XC40. While the bigger sibling comes in both electric and internal-combustion variants, the new one is expected to come as an electric model only. Furthermore, it will ride on a completely new platform, developed by the parent company, Geely.

The new 2021 Volvo XC20 is pretty much a certain thing. The officials pretty much confirmed the arrival of this model and it is expected to see it on the market already in the next year. Most likely, the primary market will be China, though we expect to see it in other parts of the world as well.

In terms of base design characteristics, the first thing we should mention is that this will be an all-electric vehicle. It will be based on a new platform, called Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA), which was developed by the parent company Geely. Moreover, this platform already debuted under the Lynk & Co Zero Concept.

From what we know so far, the new platform will similar design solution to store the energy. We are about to see a battery pack, positioned under the floor and protected with the same kind of cage.

Exterior

When it comes to the exterior design, the first thing that comes to mind is the size. This will be the smallest vehicle in the company’s lineup, and we expect to see a wheelbase several inches shorter compared to the XC40, which measures over 106 inches between the axles. We expect that the new 2021 Volvo XC20 will be similar to models like Audi Q2, which is good for a little bit more than 102 inches in wheelbase.

When it comes to the styling, we expect a lot of influence from the new XC40 Recharge. Still, this will be an all-electric vehicle on purpose, so we do not doubt that the styling will include a big portion of exclusive details, which would accentuate the model’s all-electric nature. At this point, it’s still early for the details, but we presume that the biggest differences will be at the front.

Interior

With typical subcompact dimensions, we may presume how spacious the new crossover will be. You may count on a decent amount of legroom in both rows, though taller passengers may feel a little bit tight in the second row. The cargo area won’t offer spectacular numbers either but believe we can expect something like 15 cubic feet behind the second row of seats. Of course, the fact that we are talking about an all-electric model means that you may count on a decent storage area at the front as well.

Still, the most prominent aspect of the new cabin should be the dashboard design. Given the model’s nature, we have no doubt that the company will try to accentuate its all-electric character as much as possible. We count on a combination of quality materials and futuristic aesthetical solutions, while pretty much all controls should be digitalized.

2021 Volvo XC20 Performances

At this point, details in terms of drivetrain, performances and range are still a mystery. Still, we don’t expect that the 2021 Volvo XC20 will be any less impressive than the XC40 Recharge. Moreover, the new platform will probably bring various benefits, particularly in terms of efficiency and charging options.

The bigger sibling features one electric motor on each axle, with a total output of 402 horsepower. That’s enough to provide a 0-60 sprint in just 4.7 seconds and we expect that the new 2021 Volvo XC20 will feature similar acceleration.

When it comes to the max range, we count on a similarly-sized battery (75 kWh), though the improved efficiency and smaller size should have a positive effect and provide a longer max range compared to the XC40, which can make around 200 miles on a single charge.

2021 Volvo XC20 Release Date

As we already mentioned, the new model should arrive already in the next year.
